CAN I PLEASE HEAR YOU TALK ABOUT NORTH RHAPSODY PLSSSSS
OF COURSE !!!
I mentioned this in one of my last asks but North Rhapsody is my favourite of the Rhapsody's because of the theme of remembering death and appreciating your loved ones in general.
It's interesting because right at the beginning of the story when you'd think it should be White angry about the festival taking place its Snow. For Snow this festival is more than just appreciating the dead and remembering the days bygone. For Snow, this is a way to atone (in a sense). Though for both twins they experience the meaning of this festival much differently.
I know Snow says that he's been keeping up with the festival as a means of thanks but I'm sure it wasn't always like that (hell I'm sure he still has other thoughts in mind while helping to hold it)
To me Snow sees it as a way to atone and apologize to White whilst likely being on the side of the living where he understands how difficult it is it live without your beloved. To be the only one left behind.
White even states that he would return every year home to Make Sure it was played out. But only started to show this much attention to the festival AFTER White's death.
Snow accusing White that the festival means nothing to him while in reality the festival means too much too personally is likely why White is able to look at their circumstances logically and is more eager to cancel it.
But White suggesting to cancel the festival here is-at the same time- like him refusing Snow's "apology" which is likely why it hurt him even more.
White even tells Akira while explaining what the festival is about that
the festival is what the living wish for for the dead.
Even the way White words this (and adding on that its even said outright by him later on) that at least in his eyes he is never asked if the he even Want such a festival to take place.
That being said that brings us to White's pov on the matter....
White sees this festival as multiple things but what more than a reminder of his own state of being. Snow is so adamant about this festival Because He's Dead. He Is Being Celebrated because he's no longer a part of the living. Everywhere he looks past the lanterns and the decor and the outfits everyone's adorned in he is constantly reminded of what has happened, of what is irreversible.
This festival as much as it does have its positive sides forces White to remember just what his place is in the world. A being that is simply around because his brother wills it so.
