yeah it's not!! the very early stages of it was sparked by now-deleted sb fanart posted years ago that's just human khj cupping mermaid kjy's cheek tenderly and it unfortunately gave me brainrot for days...recently i was looking through old photos and came across it and then unfortunately contracted brainrot again 😕

so i started toying with the idea of writing a mermaid au - mermaid!kjy makes so much sense to me and it's honestly criminal i haven't written it earlier. think about it.....she's always felt so naturally drawn to the ocean and said it heals her + naturally good at swimming, surfing, scuba diving + her fascination with the deep sea + her being the only wuju to choose giving up meat for the rest of her life vs the other wujus opting to give up seafood when they did that balance game? "i belong in the water" being an absolutely insane quote? i could go on. & on the other hand you have khj and her severe aquaphobia. the fic just started writing itself tbh

i'm trying not to give the whole plot away bc i'm pretty excited to write this one so i'll probably be able to properly talk about the thought process when i'm done with it hehe. part of the motivation was also self-indulgence tbh i like mermaid aus a lot but haven't read that many (not that there aren't many out there) and i'm pretty much just writing the fic i wanted to read and subjecting you all to it as well
