I’m curious about your thoughts on how a modern au HBN would differ in terms of approach to CWN, since he doesn’t necessarily have the same things holding him back from making a move? I keep thinking about how he would react to seeing Mo Ran and Chu Wanning grow closer; if he would immediately make plans to interfere or hope for a blow up down the line to insert himself. I have such a hard time imaging him just being like, “Well, lost my shot with the man of my dreams…” ¯_(ツ)_/¯ “Guess I’ll just let Mo Ran have everything I want, that’s fine.”
Modern AU Hua Binan would be the worst and I truly mean that. His motivations with the BBBF in canon were one of his redeeming features but if you took that away, and still assumed that his fixation on Chu Wanning remained, he could be nightmarish. He was a very skilled manipulator and with Ranwan’s natural inclination towards miscommunication, I think he could engineer some pretty nasty misunderstandings between them. I think a lot would depend on exactly how bad his childhood was in this modern AU vs. in canon.
