Hello! I am a friend of someone who recently discovered they were a system. They have an alter that's aggressive/angry and they have to lock them up in a room or keep them restrained. I was wondering if there's a right way to handle those kinds of alters? Or if there's a name for those kinds of alters in particular? I want to help my friend and their other alter as much as I can -R
i would need more context or to know your friend personally to help further, but alters who attempt to hurt the body/themselves or other people are usually known as persecutors. persecutors aren't evil alters like some outdated sources say, they're usually misunderstood alters who are trapped in abusive mindsets. does your friend realize a pattern on why this alter seems to lash out? if they're a recently discovered system, their communication with their alters may be very low. try encouraging them to talk to a professional if they see one about this alters behavior. if that isn't a option, try encouraging them yourself to see what this alter really wants. they may be trauma responding/relasping, which not only hurts them, but the entire health of the system too
