I talked to some others, and for some reason this method only worked for me, but if you happen to encounter this again (hopefully you won't, but the information is still nice to have), google's exact search operator helps a lot. Searching up a specific quote bounded by double quotation marks will look for exact matches, and adding "ao3" (without quotation marks) to the end helps narrow it down further. Sometimes, you might not find anything since ao3 has the option to hide an author's work if the author toggles this on, and in that case, the best way to search is just using ao3's advanced search with tags you think the original fic would likely have used.
