What if your favorite part of the comic process?
I think it has to be the concept & visual development part! Thinking about themes/motifs/story structure/visual language and how they’ll all slot together to build a bigger story is just sooo juicy to me. I love exploring what the specific visual style of the project will be - what kind of hand and mark making builds up the page and what does it mean? What kind of rules for the page layout should I set to balance technical and thematic goals or constraints? What inspirations am I looking at? What era or genre or art is this story in conversation with and how can my choices add layers to interpreting the story? It’s like a big puzzle and when the pieces interlock in multiple ways too — mwah. Obsessed.
