hi, sry if you’ve answered something like this before. i’m just wondering if you have any advice on finishing a fic? i have probably over 50 drafts, many that are over 15K words, but i just CANT finish them lol. i’ll write on them consistently for a few weeks and then forget about them, then months later i’ll reread them like “damn this is good” but i can’t even finish it bc i forgot the plot lmao… and then sometimes i just get super nitpicky and end up abandoning it… idk😭
Hi I haven’t answered this so you’re good! First off getting as far as 15k words into a draft is impressive so I hope you’re proud of yourself.
It’s tough bc there’s different ways to approach this. When it’s happened to me, some things worked some times but not always. For instance, it could be that you’re put off by the pacing you’ve set up in your wip. In which case the way to approach it would be to switch up the rhythm and maybe even skip ahead a bit in the storyline so you can get to writing the parts you’re more excited about. OR you can tell yourself to open and spend time with the doc just 1hr each day. Maybe you’re not writing much, but spending time with it daily has helped me not feel so hostile towards it lol it kind of demystifies the wip a bit.
I also recommend - and this is entirely my preference - but prohibit yourself from starting any more ideas. You are now in jail!! 50 drafts is BONKERS! That’s like having 50 kids…orphaned and afraid.. go back to your kids!!!!!! (At least to 1 of them heh)
