Rarely. It's very uncommon to say anything positive to any coworker, outside of the yearly employee reviews where we are explicitly asked for it by the manager (and the managers often won't forward those even though we want them to, so we end up doing it ourselves against their wishes).

I think the best praise you'll get here is either the generic non-authentic praise from the manager during a meeting when they realize that something got done, where it doesn't matter how well or bad it was done. Or maybe just the satisfaction of getting something merged directly without any comments from the reviewer.
