Thoughts on Nukitashi getting localized already (and at all)?
is nukitashi good for a first untranslated read?
Have you tried reading 図書館ドラゴンは火を吹かない? It's one of the better narou stuff I've read.
Do you mean that omaegotoki as a WN is now complete?
What would a list like that look like for getting into 一般小説?
What light novel(s) would you recommend to someone trying to get into the medium?
イリヤの空、UFOの夏 and 人類は衰退しました. They will curse you to continue reading LNs forever in hopes of finding something as good as them.
If you want something recent/ongoing, then りゅうおうのおしごと!. For something that's only a single volume long, 紫色のクオリア. These are similarly cursed, so they're perfect picks for a newcomer.
If you want the MOST cursed series, then ミス・ファーブルの蟲ノ荒園. Not only does it embody the appeal of LNs perfectly, it's unfinished and cancelled! (This isn't really a serious suggestion, but the others are.)
When reading voiced VNs, do you wait for the VA to completely read the line on display or do you move to the next line when you finish reading it?
who is your favorite Sen character not named Altina
I don't know about favorite, but the character in Sen who surprised me the most was probably Ash. When he was first introduced, I thought he was going to be really annoying and lazily written, but he actually ended up being a well-rounded character who plays off the rest of the cast well and has a lot of fun lines.
Aurelia was another character who surprised me, since I didn't remember her at all from Sen II, but she ended up being cool as hell in Sen III. In general, Sen III does wonders for even existing characters (other than old class VII, who are unsalvageable) and, despite all of the many problems with its script that have been memed into oblivion by now, actually lived up to the standards of characterization established by previous games in the series, imo.
I was even surprised by Rean himself in Sen III! In the first two games, he was just kind of a generic LN protagonist dude, but in Sen III/IV, he's a knowledgeable, level-headed adult who takes his job as a teacher seriously. He's still a chuuni edgelord, but I felt like they actually did a pretty decent job of depicting him as a guiding figure for his students and establishing a firm bond between him and the new class VII. Like, people complain about Juna being infatuated with him, but... he literally saved her life and went on to become an important figure in her life on a personal level too. I really like teacher protagonists and teacher-student dynamics in general, so I'm a bit biased in this regard, but Juna has way more of a reason to care about Rean than any of the old class VII, and looking at relationships like this is a good way to understand how Sen III succeeded in ways that Sen I really dropped the ball with.
Sen IV has issues with characterization due to the first two chapters being so incredibly protracted and it reusing the format of Sen II - in particular, the student characters in Sen I/III honestly received enough development already and they aren't really given anything to do in the sequels - but one of the reasons why I'm not hating the experience is just because Sen III developed its cast so well and gave us a reason to care about them. So in that sense, I guess my answer to this question is "pretty much everyone who was primarily developed in Sen III," which really brings to light just how ultimately meaningless the vast majority of Sen I/II really was...
Also, Celine is pretty good in Sen IV, now that she's a loli catgirl wearing a revealing outfit, instead of just... a cat.
Are you gonna play Megaman 11?
It just got over 100 million yen so I feel compelled to ask: what's the hype around Musica about? What makes it so special that people gave it so much money?
The simple answer is that a whole lot of people really love Setoguchi's writing and are eager to see him return to eroge. Bamboo has also done a very good job promoting the crowdfunding campaign itself.
The trial they released is very compelling, as well. I'd recommend trying it out if you want to see what all the hype is about - it honestly made me feel like Musica could end up being Setoguchi's best work period.
yo dude omaegotoki are you into naoru now?
Just this series for now. I've tried reading several other Narou fics, including some very popular and well-regarded stuff, in the past, but I could never tolerate the writing enough to get very far in them.
Omae Gotoki has made appreciate web novels as a storytelling format, at least; until reading it, I had convinced myself that there was nothing worthwhile out there just published for free on the internet, but clearly that's not the case. Kind of a silly mindset, since I've enjoyed plenty of freeware games and VNs, but I suppose that's what a combination of preconceived notions and bad prior experiences will do.
I'm still not very interested in trying to sort through Narou to find new things myself, but Omae Gotoki has at least convinced me that it's worth giving everything a shot, no matter what the source of it is. If nothing else, I'll check out some of kiki's other works and continue buying the print versions of Omae Gotoki as they come out.
As far as other Narou stuff goes, I'm interested in this, since the writing style is very elegant and the author has become friends with Mareni: https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/4800287464
Maybe one of the other yuri stories on Narou is worth reading... they probably don't fall into the same ORETUEEEE tropes, at least.
What Discord servers are you in? I don't participate a lot in discussions but I love read people who know their business so it would be nice to join those servers.
Do you still watch anime? What was the latest one you liked?
Would Saihate no Ima be a bad idea for a first untranslated read? Also which version to get?
This would be a really terrible idea. Ima is a dense, ponderous read even for native speakers, filled with long digressions on a wide variety of specific topics, and if you try reading it without a solid handle on the language you will probably just end up discouraged and unengaged. I would recommend picking pretty much anything else.
For anyone wondering what version of the game to play, though, there aren't really any significant differences between versions like with C+C, so just go with the latest one.
So whatever happened to Mizuhuito Akiyama?
He posted a message on the Kakuyomu serialization of Iriya no Sora recently: https://kakuyomu.jp/works/1177354054885579795/episodes/1177354054886208349
tl;dr He just doesn't seem to be interested in writing anymore.
