Hi! I know this zine is for the MSBY4, but is it allowed to ship them with outside characters?
Hello Anon and thank you for your interest in our project <3
We aim to be a general project and as such we will focus on the platonic relationship between the MSBY4 characters. Explicitly romantic pairings between the teammates or with outside characters should not be part of any zine contribution.
You are free to include or mention outside characters and imply a romantic pairing but you can not outright say or show that 2 characters are a pair (eg. you could do a piece where you show or mention how Akaashi is visiting MSBY4 to bring Bokuto a lunch as it is canon that he does so and people will be free to imagine a romantic ship, but you can not explicitly say he is bringing his boyfriend lunch or show them kissing, etc.).
For more guidelines on outside characters, you can visit our Carrd FAQ here: https://msby4zine.carrd.co/#faq
Have a great day and if you have any more questions or would like clarification on anything, please don't hesitate to ask again <3
hello! for writers' additional portfolio pieces, would it be preferred that they follow the same informational template provided in the writer application? thanks!
Hi Anon,
If you only want to submit select, curated works as a portfolio, you are free to use a 2nd copy of the sample-doc template (or your own doc with a similar structure) as basis, but there is no requirement or preference.
You can also use a google drive folder with the works in their own docs or just link your complete Ao3/FanFiction.net/similar site account (with any potential NSFW works filtered out) or a different system of displaying your additional portfolio works—whatever works best for you, there is no requirement on formatting for the portfolio <3
Have a great weekend and we hope to see your application soon.
Hello! For writers portfolios, do the same word count restrictions apply? Thanks!
Hello Anon,
the only restriction for portfolios is, that they should not include any sexually explicit works. Otherwise you can include works for any fandom and in any length that you want the mods to see—of cource, you can filter out long-fics if you want to, but it is not required <3
Thank you for your interest in the zine and we hope to see your application soon ^-^
hi do samples have to be in the sample document or can we just put an ao3 link in lieu of putting all 2k words in the sample document
Hi Anon,
please copy-paste the full text of your samples into the sample doc, so we can view them all in one link.
Thank you in advance and we are looking forward to your application ~
will this be a "sign-up and participate" process or will our samples be examined and screened? (basically is there a chance we'll be rejected from taking part)
Hello Anon,
samples/portfolios will be examined and rated by the mods, so there is a chance that you could be rejected.
However, given that we're a digital, for-fun zine and not limited by any page count or production cost, we will take a much more lax approach to the rating process than is usual. The plan, as of now is to rate purely "Yes" or "No" (possibly a "Maybe" for potential Pinch-Hitters) and accept everyone who gets a "Yes", with no further ranking and no or a high cap on the number of contributors we'll accept.
(This depends a little on the position you apply for and the number of final applications. There will be no cap for page artists at all and we will accept as many writers as possible, but as we want to keep content balanced, there might be a cap on writers in relativity to artists; likely is a 3:1 ratio of artists to writers, where a 4:1 or 5:1 is common for print zines. Similarly spot artists will depend on the number of writers and merch artists on the predicted total volume of the zine.)
But our overall goal is to accept as many of the people, who we believe can create a zine illustration/fic based on their samples/portfolio, as we can <3
Hope that answers your question and we look forward to seeing your application ^-^
For writers, the sample pieces can be up to 2.5k each or have to add up to 2.5k total? (Ex. 1.5k piece + 1k piece)
Hello Anon,
the samples can be up to 2.5k each!
Thank you for bringing it to our attention that this wasn't clearly worded—the phrasing on both our Carrd and the Application Form are now amended.
Thank you for checking out our zine and we look forward to your application <3
