[Inspired by the BBC TV program "The Big Questions"] Do you think Abrahamic religions are unfair to women? If so, why do you think there are lots of women following and practicing these religions?

Yea. As to why? My ONION is that, first of all, these religions are based in patriarchal power structures (which is a reflection of the societies from which these religions arose and are practiced). In such patriarchies, men are afforded the vast majority of the social, economic, cultural, political, and sexual power. In order to enjoy a fraction of this power, women have to get it through their proximal associations with men, namely through marriage. What's easier: forming a resistance alongside other women to overturn deeply ingrained power structures that have yet to be overturned (re: history) OR getting married, enjoying whatever luxuries your husband can afford, living a simple life, and upholding the status quo?

Also, as other people said, indoctrination prevents people from feeling like this is actually a problem. Treating women like baby-making machines isn't misogyny, it's "growing the church!"
