That Fyodor wrote Dazai off as his equal? But didn't Fyodor say so himself this chap? Tbf this isn't as much about the objective reality and whether Dazai will manage to come on top in the end, but about disappointment Fyodor seems to feel atm. I think Dazai managed to surprise him here and there during Meursault arc but that inevitably it all ended up according to Fyodor's plan - and that's why he's left with a bittersweet aftertaste of loneliness in the mouth. And this is actually a plus in my fyozai book, I'm a big fan of angst
