okay special scene is definitely coming (potentially tomorrow though) as for why i think matt fits best as a beta:

1. I feel in general that if you ever look at someone and you’re like they sorta look like an alpha but sorta like an omega the middle group answer you’re looking for is beta. like I just look at matthew and he looks like a beta to me. his ability to in a way shapeshift from the cute out to the cool one feels like a beta fluidity to me but 2. betas are often seen as the steady, grounding force in a pack, and Matthew excels in this role as a natural mood maker that holds the group together. he’s got an emotional awareness that really draws people to him and i think in a way helps people feel calm and more comfortable around him which is something that seems more beta to me 3 . a lot of people say omega with his clinginess and i do get that but betas can be affectionate too, especially when that comes with a sort of steadiness i also 4. feel that his loyalty especially considering his more long lasting friendships, leans more into the beta traits (i am an hp anti nowadays but in my soul matt is a hufflepuff) and lastly because this is long 5. my controversial thought, I just don’t think he’s an omega, ive written him as an alpha before too so i could go with that but with alpha matt it feels like a lot of his sensitive side is pushed aside and so thats why i prefer beta matt
