Isn’t Arashi an okama archetype (stereotypically effeminate gay man)? These characters do tend to get lumped in with trans women in western fandoms quite a lot.
i think it's more the onee archetype really but it's the same general idea and you bring up something rly true with the mix-up. it's not just in western fandom but in real life too, and i think that's something that younger people may not get? i.e. in beasts tetora asks arashi (paraphrased) "you have the heart of a woman, right, i get it now," which people take as irrefutable proof arashi IS DEFINITELY a woman, but tetora is trying to understand arashi while being a masculine teenage boy, and going "ohhhhh basically you're like a girl" is the easiest way, lmao. he is not the first nor the last person to understand gnc gay people by thinking of them as "more like" the opposite sex. and i've seen it come up a number of times in BL too, so it's definitely a thing that is INTENTIONALLY reflected in fictional writing too.
