nothing against it, just curious, but what made you leave ao3 and decide to make a personal fanfic archive instead? sorry i’m kinda new to your account so if you’ve talked about it before i probably didn’t see it.

no need to apologize!! i don't mind saying again but maybe i should put it in my carrd at this point lol

anyway there are 2 reasons:

1) something i've talked about for years is that i don't think any one website should have a monopoly on fanfiction. this not only contradicts the spirit of fandom but also just isn't a good technology approach (obviously it's not a literal monopoly, but it's kinda similar)

2) the final straw was a combination of things. in june last year i reported a fanfiction for having an entire chapter dedicated to arguing, from the author's pov (not an in-character thing, it was an a/n), that child marriage is fine and the age of consent is bogus. this was about real life, and used real life examples of child brides. ao3 refused to remove it. just a couple weeks later, a former volunteer exposed that ao3 declines to delete the accounts of known literal real-life CSEM distributors, even when that person has used their ao3 works to aid in distribution (as in, someone links to their discord that distributes it, only the work with the link gets deleted - not the whole account). this is not concern about fictional content on there, it's disgust at how they handle real-life advocacy of pedophilia and promotion of actual CSEM.

i don't think ao3 is evil, and i don't judge anyone who still hosts their work on there. but that's why i chose to take my works off of there and move them to a personal archive.
