what are your thoughts on people bashing those who like genderbent f/f ships (mm → ff to be specific)? i saw some people say it's lazy but like... it's still f/f isn't it? i know people can and have the right to complain (i also have qualms about the whole ordeal) but also, i'd like to know your thoughts!
i definitely understand where they're coming from -- if you like the female characters in something, you want them to get the attention, not for people to find a way to somehow make even f/f about the male characters -- but ultimately it's still f/f!! that's still putting f/f fanart and fanfiction into the world! there's also certain character types that someone might like and that rarely show up as female characters (personality/trope wise, and also like for me it's much easier to imagine a male character gendersbent to a butch than to completely overhaul a femme female character), so it gives them more options and variety in their f/f. also taking male characters and saying "actually it's better if they're WOMEN so i'm changing it" is so valid*
(*ok as long as "it's better if they're women" doesn't just mean "i put makeup on them" obviously)
so i think someone who ships only-female-character f/f and someone who ships only-genderbent f/f have really different focuses in the source media, but in the end it's all yuri and all good 🤝♀️♀️🤝
