im looking for which cat insurance to buy, can I ask what you have or if you have any recs?

we have trupanion through chewy! definitely shop around for what's best for your cat based on your needs -- for example, Embrace insurance apparently covers some pre-existing conditions. also some providers will cover regular wellness stuff and others won't; since we have young cats who go just once a year, we weren't concerned about getting coverage for routine wellness checkups, but you might be.

our top priority was getting the most coverage and the possibility of not having to pay up front. with trupanion, some hospitals around here will work with them directly for larger bills/longer stays instead of having to pay upfront and then get reimbursed. we haven't had that happen yet and have had to pay upfront for things, but during our last visit to the pet ER they did tell us if she ended up being admitted for a longer stay, they would have been able to bill directly to our insurance.

to give you a real idea of how we've used it:

we have a $250 deductible for each pet, and then the plan covers 90% with no limit on coverage.
- vet visit because bramble got too anxious to pee: $344. amount reimbursed: $85. (hit the deductible there)
- clover's first vet visit for her breathing: $577. amount reimbursed: $277 (hit the deductible there)
- clover's visit at the emergency center a day later to see a cardiologist: $1277. amount reimbursed: $1149.

in all 3 cases we had approval within 24 hours and the reimbursement was deposited within like 2 business days. so i'm sure there are probably people out there who had bad experiences for some reason, but for what we need this has been great, and we've had no issue so far with getting anything covered!
