When you’re getting ready to write, what do you do to set the mood (I.e.: listen to a certain type of music, watch something, prepare a snack/drink, etc.)?
(Also if you see this question twice, sorry! Dunno if the first submission took…)
Ooh, good question! I always have a Diet Coke on hand, and I have a Law-themed playlist that I listen to. If I'm writing the next chapter of an ongoing fic, I'll often reread the previous chapter before starting the next one as well.
(Sorry this is late. It came in right before my long day at work, and I got swamped.)
What got you into One Piece in the first place and what made you stay?
So, this is a funny story because, for a while, I DIDN'T stay. I started watching One Piece when the 4Kids dub aired on Toonami, and despite how terrible that was, I got interested enough to seek out the manga. I started from the beginning and followed weekly until about Fishman Island. At that point, I fell away from anime and manga entirely; I started watching Arrow and the various spinoffs and then got into the Glee fandom.
I was super into that fandom until it ended, and then the Arrowverse shows started ending as well. Then, during Covid, I had a random urge to find out what was happening in One Piece. I went to the One Piece wiki and read some summaries... only to discover that Law--who I'd been drawn to pretty much as soon as he was introduced--basically became a main character around the time I stopped following the manga and no one told me 😂
I immediately picked up with Punk Hazard and caught up to the manga around the time chapter 997 was coming out and have been following weekly since. I started writing fic and really getting into fandom after that. So, that's the story of how Trafalgar Law brought me back to OP after a decade away.
First fandom and first ship you liked?
Oooh! The first fandom I spent actual time doing fandom-y things for was Harry Potter. I was reading fanfic, listening to podcasts, going to midnight release parties for the books and movies... all that fun stuff. I never shipped for Harry Potter, though.
Shipwise, before I even knew what shipping was, I was shipping Tommy/Kim in Power Rangers and Buffy/Angel in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Baby's first M/M ship was Yusuke/Kurama from Yu Yu Hakusho. I know Kurama/Hiei is a much more popular ship, but I was always drawn to how protective Yusuke was over Kurama, despite the latter being a demon that was hundreds of years old.
What is one of your favorite scenes you’ve written?
Oooh, this is hard! I have a particular fondness for the final scene of "Lead Me Back to Suffering" told from Flevance's point of view. I tried to write that part a lot of different ways, but when I settled on the city's POV, it was just right. I also really love the Pirates of the Caribbean-inspired marriage proposal scene in "I Want Your Laughter (Like the Flower I Was Waiting for)." I love POTC and tying it to One Piece is always fun. Oh, and Law and Shachi playing in the snow in "Heart with Its Hands Full." The OG four Hearts have my soul. Ugh, too many to name.
Hello! I love your work on Pirate Hearts and Corazon Law! How do you write such strong and emotional lyrics? I cry for them! My question, a bit embarrassing, is what is your dirtiest fantasy about the Law? In your works, the Law suffers a lot, it makes my heart suffer! I think I want a scene of gentle sex between Luffy and Law, or cuddling in bed. If you could fulfill one of your dreams, what would it be? Good luck and all the best! English is not my native language, sorry.
Ahhh, thank you so much <3 My dirtiest Law fantasy? Hmmm. Maybe not particularly dirty, but I am especially fond of scenarios where Law drops his walls and lets someone else take care of him. Bonus points for other ways Law cedes control like blindfolds and other bondage. I think, for a control freak like Law, there's something incredibly intimate and vulnerable in allowing someone else to take the reins, and that is incredibly affecting to me.
Fulfilling one of my dreams? Publishing a novel! I'm currently in an MFA program with the end goal of having a publishable manuscript at the end. I hope y'all will read it :)
