Back to what That other anon said.I think the fact that Your doing this whole artist thing is a sign of your
selfishness/ego.You seem like the type of person who makes art purely for their own satisfaction first and foremost
i think you have a fundamental misunderstanding of selfishness and ego if this is your assessment, so let me break it down for you.
compare to someone who makes art exclusively for others and tries to please/give satisfaction to as many people as they can. this artist wants a vast audience, and doesnt have strict principles about what they create- they want to be well known as an artist. satisfying others is a veneer that obscures their need for recognition and identity as an artist. in other words, their role or ego.
you can have your own personal definition/interpretation, but i just cant see why an artist would want to please others as much as possible unless it was related to their identity as an artist and therefore ego.
i dont have an identity as an artist. i like drawing. i like doing things with my hands. but ive never done it enough that i feel like it makes sense for me to label myself that way, even if others will. i try to understand it. drawing was something i initially focused on a lot bc i couldnt communicate well with my peers in elementary school, we moved countries several times which was confusing and i probably have some kind of brain damage that makes basic things difficult for me also. i wanted to communicate, i wanted them to like me too. i wanted them to respect me and understand that i was good at something. this was ego, however faint and however little of an impact it had on my behavior. but it crumbled with time. i lost all confidence in myself. making art to please others was more of a desperate fawning than a confident shout. and only when i had to do it. and the rest is just having an overactive sex drive and no human relationships
