thank you for translating the recent songs so quickly! I would love to know your thoughts on the rationale behind the use of 'doggo' in born this way (other than what you mentioned in your TN on phantom.moe) because when I first heard it i knew you would have something funny to say about it
So I have a few potential options here:
Possibility 1, which I think is most likely: the rationale I allude to my translation notes; it's basically a transcription... I don't know if I'd call it an "error"? But like, a problem of they meant something else but it gets tripped up by "yeah, that's a word in English, go with that" in the transliteration. This just happens sometimes (for instance I've made the executive decision to render a word in REBELLION as "rebirth" and not "reverse", and I interpreted the "GILA GILA" in Bigger Bigger BaNG!!! as "gira gira", blazing/sparkling).
My best guess, based on how the bark after it is officially rendered "-one" despite sounding to my ear like "on": an intended play on doggone, especially bc if you by by pure dictionary denotation it might come up as being akin to goddamn?
I debated just doing the doggone thing as the gloss but I felt like it was too much of a leap.
Possibility 2: It's just a misunderstanding of the connotations of the term, going for "slang word that means dog" (that also happens relatively easy to pronounce in Japanese phonemes).
Possibility 3: They did this to give me, specifically, mister jakkal snakebrain, a fucking hernia
