hello cindy heres lunch and i finally read ur 2023 book review bc i accidentally fell down a wikipedia hole abt doomed arctic explorations and didnt want to fall asleep after that! u managed to read (no joke. last year was Bad reading wise) ten times as many books as me ..... thats so cool u read such a wide variety!!
i originally kept the tab open bc i remember u raving abt young mungo at some point and thought u might have read it last year but that must've been the year before anyway i bought the book recently even tho i havent started yet so! consider me influenced! also im bummed to find out that the author of station eleven is a zionist apparently bc id been planning to read that one this year but well we move! i have so much other stuff on my tbr i wont run out anytime soon rip
speaking of tbr i need to go over ur list again and write down which ones i want to read myself bc so many sounded really good!!! however i also have been cured of any desire to ever read babel i fear bc that just sounds like such a drag page count wise -_-
anyway ive personally only read like 3 of the books but it was super cool to read abt ur perspective! re: the wicker king i honestly do not remember a lot (i read it back when it came out) except that it left a v strong impression on me but honestly yea fair! also i read it in translation so that mightve influenced some bits probably
never let me go: i read that book in 2013 and i remember that i fi ished it on a public bus and i broke down crying so hard that other passengers asked me if i was okay 😭 so i'll never touch that book again or watch the film bc i got my share of emotional damages lol but i really liked the writing and as u said, i think the love triangle was way less obtrusive than ud imagine (but also. i just found it so fucking cruel???? kathy wtf) but omg now i just remember that era of tumblr when everyone and their mum did fancast gifsets of the marauders from the terf wizard books and i cant prove it but i feel like half of all andrew garfield l*pin gifs came from that movie oh my god....
and finally! werther! im always so surprised when ppl read old german books like why would u do that to urself if u dont have to suffer thru highschool german class like we did.... i am a devoted goethe hater (fuck faust all my homies hate faust) but i have to admit werther was a quick and easy read (as u put it "accessible classics"!!!) which was way better than goethes later works (again. fuck faust). i lowkey still find it insane that this book literally inspired both a fashion trend of ppl dressing like werther bc he is So pathetic. truly setting new lows. and also inspired a wave of imitation suicides???? did they all have lead poisoning back then. why would u do this. also sorry if u didnt know abt that, shit o.o
anyway im so sorry for rambling for ???? very long in ur inbox without any real point to get to except: i really liked reading that list! i hope u read lots of good books again this year!! pls never stop posting pics of ur cats!! take care & good night !!

which doomed arctic explorations were you reading up on lol + please tell me ur thoughts on young mungo whenever you get a chance to read it!!!! also noted i will never try to read faust. we only picked up werther bc my friend called goethe the german shakespeare and she gave us some good background on the "trends" this book inspired. anyways this long message is so cute you are so cute i will eat u my beloved lunch.
