John has Garcia and Lisa injected with the gift after the cult captures them, allowing them to better tolerate the presence of demons. It's also a precaution, in the unlikely case the Unspeakable is separated from John it could inhabit them temporarily. But the shot interacts strangely with her old trauma and the demon blood flowing in Lisa's veins, turning her into a bloodthirsty berserker like John. They are placed in cages to ride it out (and avoid some more needless thrall deaths), but Garcia gets little rest due to her snarling and throwing herself against the bars.
