Honestly, most of my ideas just pop in my head, often as a singular scene, though usually there's something in game/irl/in other media that sparks the idea. From there, I just really try to figure out what would change due to the scenario I'm thinking about, sort of taking a step further. What would need to happen for x to occur? What would x cause? How would x make the characters feel?

Many of my fics are written for a prompt and then it's often a matter of what I think would make it fit best in the world. What situation the prompted thing could happen in? I just toss around ideas, until I find a way for the prompt to fit
