Kill yourself.
I think it's futile and a little embarrassing to engage with anonymous messages like this but I'm entertained bc this is the first retrospring message I'm seeing in months so HI ❤️

what female animanga characters do you identify with?
i actually don't know bc i see myself in everyone and project a lot so I always think my perspective is skewed but let's say shiori rgu for younger me and then later a bit of nana osaki
sorry if this is a dumb question, but do you have any recommendations of feminist readings/literature? i would love to get more into feminist theory but i don’t know where to start
angela davis' "women, race and class" was a good starting point for me personally :) or dworkin's "woman hating". don't let myself be the only person u ask this though! :)
wanted to hate for comparing bum ass rhaenicent to rgu but ngl I see it
😭😭😭
do you have a favourite film with feminist themes?
hmmMmmmmM i have a lot of films i love that have feminist themes either explicitly and intentionaly or i just like to interpret them that way :,) so let's see, some that i watched recently: cleo from 5 to 7, funeral parade of roses, black girl, marble ass, pariah, je tu il elle, the watermelon woman (from the top of my head)
are there any videos, threads or longer posts you’d recommend for diving deeper into revolutionary girl utena? i’m on my second rewatch, but i think i’m missing out on good analysis in order to enjoy it properly
of course!
i always tell people to start with this series of essays: the palace perspective: nanami kiryuu at the heart of the world -- it's essential reading to me...i can't stress that enough. it's a series of essays about sibling incest, the way it's handled in utena, and gendered abuse within the family unit, its manifestation on a larger scale, its cyclical nature, etc. i love the way it's structured and the way it articulates the show's core themes bluntly yet cautiously. you can access it here: https://web.archive.org/web/20220126221139/https://palaceperspective.tumblr.com/
if you're interested in dissections of the movie, a video I go back to regularly is "film cuts back | transfeminism in utena" from seebeee -- its quality lies not only in the analysis itself and information it provides but also the production and editing, i like how it feels like a documentary movie and it's done with a lot of passion and knowledge behind it. https://youtu.be/fJ-RANs0TH4?si=VTWxO1WvWdA1-Vvb
these are the only essays and videos i really go back to a lot but there are a lot of good video essays on youtube, even if I don't agree with everything they say, they bring interesting perspectives. there's this playlist [https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLyKT0co9jZvRHZD8u-3YKCDydlp3N9UjX] that has some of them and I think I've seen them all at some point and I'm pretty sure they're all interesting and informative. also you prob know about jay scott and his really well structured website [https://satirist.org/essays/utena/] abt his interpretations of utena, I don't agree with some of the things he writes but I appreciate how detailed it gets.
i like this interpretation of "internal clock, municipal orrery" (the song from the akio duel, one of my favorites) https://ohtori.nu/analysis/08_caleb_internal_clock_explained.htm (i guess you could also comb this website through for more essays sorted into specific topics relating to rgu, they've been archiving them for years/decades; i haven't rly dug into it so i can't point you in any specific direction but yeah. if you've been around for a while you know abt ohtori.nu already)
who's your fav sailor moon character
ive only seen the 90s anime (some arcs more than the others though lol) and im currently reading the manga (rn on the dream arc) and i think i have different faves in the two versions
anime: haruka, usagi, seiya, michiru
manga: usagi, setsuna, hotaru, rei (so far)
what's a good shojou you like besides rgu?
oniisama e, sailor moon, nana, rose of versailles, the guy she was interested in wasn't a guy at all, tokyo mew mew, tomie
it's always when the pawn but never why the pawn... how the pawn... can the pawn... SHOULD the pawn...
should the pawn hit the conflict? can the pawn think like a king? why does he throw the blows when he goes to the fight? how will he win the whole thing before he enters the ring?
have you ever seen senidah live
yes 😎
name a fiona apple song you would relate to hit lesbian tv show house of the dragon?
hm i think relay is the best illustration of the show's general theme of cycles of abuse ("evil is a relay sport / when the one who's burned turns to pass the torch" "i resent you for never getting any opposition at all / i resent you for having each other")
is there something that stands out to you about anthy that you don't really talk about often?
hm I'm thinking really hard and the most correct answer would probably be > her isolation, or maybe to be more clear: the full extent, the full complexity ig of her relationship with akio (and this is likely bc it's uncomfortable for me to talk about it, but i also feel a necessity to talk about it more) - now, i mostly tend to narrow down strictly to abuser-victim (in its plainest, driest, textbook connotation), but i rarely verbalize that, before all, he is her whole family, her parent (who raised her, who she depends on ["he is more like a father to me", im paraphrasing]), her sibling, her child (whom she protects and consoles). then - friend, companion, lover? this is how he isolates her. she has no connections with other people, akio is everything to her, her whole idea of love; she doesn't perceive him as anything other than it, doesn't allow herself to. i never really talk about their relationship in that way but i do always leave it in the air, assuming it's something that's encoded by default.
another thing i truly never talk about, at least not in a serious manner (lol) is the way she's connected with animals, which is something that sticks out to me bc it again ties her back to nanami, and her connection with nanami is something i enjoy thinking and talking about a lot haha
something that i've definitely brought up here and there, because it's Super interestingg to me, but never really talked about bc i'm not familiar w the topic is how anthy's character constantly Performs, puts on a theatrical role, basically her whole life she's been told who she is (princess, which, bride), how to act; there's an unclear line between Performance and Identity not just to the viewer but also to herself. the moments where her "mask" slips are sometimes emphasized referring directly to theatre, photography, film; like utena's second duel w touga (the song goes "there may be something to be said except in the darkness of memory/momentary flash of light of creation/except in theater in the dark awaiting light called tomorrow / ... for the performers who wear the mask of time"), the scene i bring up a lot (ijbol) where chuchu is meddling with the camera allowing anthy to step in between akio and utena - like she's taking on the role of the director, or a puppeteer, for once in her life. now yeah i talk about this but i feel like it's really incoherent because, again, im not really knowledgeable on the topics of theatre and film [despite a strong and nearly lifelong interest, lol]
hm then there are things regarding her character in the movie, because i don't or barely talk about it in general.
ohhh and to end up on a light note it also stood out to me that anthy understands german as she was shown to read goethe in the original haha
and there's probably more because she's truly a neverending source of conversation [& 4 am soliloquizing]
johannes von neuschwanstein or viserys targaryen?
is s*uicide an option
