i think during any downtime io has, he's mostly spending it with either the scions or his parents, or by indulging in one of his various lil hobbies! (especially if gambling counts! whatever the eorzean equivalent of blackjack is, l'io is playing it. gil is a construct) so things like, going out drinking with thancred, adopting and tending to every houseplant he can get his gay lil hands on, or reading just the WORST fucking romance novels. like truly cringe shit. he's FASCINATED

as for how he makes time for any of it, i think when the world's not ending hes the type to set aside time for himself as well as his family/friends! plus i see him as the type to shut down and hole up when things get Too Much so that's probably when the "climbing his cat condo bed loft and reading cringe literature" happens 🤔
