hello!!!! firstly, love what you've done with the place since last i visited~ 🖤 secondly, tell us about some of your favourite films! or directors! and if they've inspired or otherwise impacted some of your own work?

oh dude, you do know me TOO damn well. this question hit my sweet spot in the bullseye i nearly squealed when i read it the first time lmao. put your imaginary seatbelt on because this is gonna be a painstakingly long ride.

my favourite films are aplenty! some of which are on my letterboxd which you're familiar with and which i can't share on here for privacy reasons. i love all the genres: romance ('the notebook', 'brokeback mountain', 'la la land'), thriller and gore ('oldboy', 'get out', 'the flowers of war'), epic ('interstellar', the potc trilogy), comedy ('kung fu hustle', 'the italian job' (1969), 'the grand budapest hotel'), animation ('ratatouille', 'monsters university', 'rango'), drama ('the truman show', 'whiplash'), apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic ('zombieland', 'knowing' - this was the movie that made me love movies). my favourite film directors are park chanwook, christopher nolan and dan scanlon. as you also know, i have the worst memory, so none of these lists are exhaustive!

i love getting inspired by movies! i obviously don't make movies myself, so i've resorted to channeling the energy into the fics i write. it's a weird thing, and idek if it translates well, but when writing, i try to emulate the things that i like in movies? pacing (a sweeping glance of a scenery or an outfit, vs lingering for just the right amount of too long on feelings and thoughts), dialogue (they can't all sound the same, people don't /actually/ talk like this, are words needed at all?), sequences (action choreography, what goes where in smut, what is the most effective way to achieve maximum impact?). i'm looking at my masterpost now to check how many of my fics were inspired by movies. i have a ton inspired by potc, and some obvious hp aus (granted less inspired by and more borrowing the universe).

fics that were specifically birthed by the movies i saw: [https://archiveofourown.org/works/16056371] inspired by 'mamma mia!', unreleased ending of [https://archiveofourown.org/works/34248976] inspired by 'the handmaiden', [https://archiveofourown.org/works/38059225] inspired by 'madagascar' and 'madagascar: escape 2 africa', [https://archiveofourown.org/works/41553207] inspired by 'pirates of the caribbean: dead man's chest' and 'pirates of the caribbean: at world's end', [https://archiveofourown.org/works/42617952] inspired by 'angels & demons', [https://baekchen-express.tumblr.com/post/185315555133/] and [https://archiveofourown.org/works/45274309] inspired by 'inception', [https://baekchen-express.tumblr.com/post/190075920448/] inspired by 'big hero 6', [https://baeksoo-times.tumblr.com/post/621701210691534848/] inspired by 'zombieland', and [https://baeksoo-times.tumblr.com/post/623181043897352192/] inspired by 'little forest'. this fic [https://archiveofourown.org/works/27597208] is for a movie!

i'm also currently... supposedly... working on a wip for a fest, that was inspired by a mv but takes major inspiration from a movie! i can't tell you what the movie is yet but a little clue: it was released in 1985!

what a fun ask! i certainly ran away with it all the way to the moon and back, lol. and thank you, i tried my best to decorate the place! the header is the first line of my favourite neil gaiman book :> thank you for this ask, audrey! 🖤
