This is a Digital-Only Zine dedicated to celebrating the birthdays of Danganronpa Characters! All Mainline Game characters are going to appear, with potentially more to come!

For page art, would it be possible to do a 2-page spread? Or is it strictly single page? Also are comics allowed? If so, are multiple pages allowed?
Hi! Yes, sorry! We are limiting it to one page per character, so it will have to be a single page! Comics are most definitely allowed!! They are the one exception to the one-page rule, so multiple pages will be allowed! Thank you for asking!
Hi there! When are you announcing your mods? I’m just wanting to know before I apply as a contributor! Thank you
Hi!! You can find who our mods are on our carrd! All you have to do is click the team icon!
why is haiji included on the carrd art? is he really going to be in zine? if so, why?
Hello!
Haiji Towa was included on the August carrd art because he had a birthday in August! While every character may not have an opportunity to appear in the zine, every character that does have a birthday will get art and a birthday post to celebrate their birthday. Every character has their fans after all, and they should get to celebrate too.
However, Haiji Towa is likely not to appear in the zine. If there is interest from Contributors that would like to create content for him, he could be. If he does however, that will be up to the Contributor's choice if they would like to create content for him. No Contributor will be forced to create content for a character they would not want to.
Thank you for your question!
Hi! If we submitted a portfolio as part of our mod application and realize later we need to change something in it, would that be okay? (If it’s something like a Google drive folder)
Howdy!
Yes, you can! You can adjust anything in your portfolio (that's in something such as a Google Drive) as long as it's before the end date of Mod Applications, August 23rd.
Thank you for the question!
Will collabs be allowed between artists and writers? 🤔
Hello!
Apologies for not specifying in the Interest Check, but yes! Artists and Writers will be able to collaborate with one another, either with an Artist producing a Full Page Illustration, or producing smaller illustrations as a Story Illustrator for the collaborated piece.
Thank you for the question!
Sorry if this has already been asked! I know on the interest check it asks about adding certain characters, but let’s say none of them end up getting added? How many contributors are you considering as a baseline? Will there be guests?
No worries, this is a good question!
As of now, the base contributor count without any additional casts will be around roughly 55 total.
This will cover all 16 characters from all 3 casts for pages (assuming every contributor only wishes to create for one character), as well as a minimal amount of merch artists.
I am very much aware this is quite the large amount of contributors for a zine- especially if more characters get to be included, but I believe with a proper mod team and clear communication with everyone working on the project, this will be achievable.
And yes! There will be Guests. The Interest Check actually has a question dedicated to asking about Artists, Writers and Merch Artists people would like to see on this project as guest contributors. You can also list yourself if you'd like, just be sure to add proper links to a social no matter who it is!
Thank you for the questions!
Hi! Sorry if this has been asked or answered before, but what is the Head Mods previous experience with zines, if any? Super excited for this zine btw, I love the idea!
Hello! No worries.
This info is actually available on the Tumblr page here (https://drbdayzine.tumblr.com/mods), but the Carrd will be updated soon to also have this information as well.
As for an actual answer, Saishii was the Head Mod, Art Mod and Finance Mod of the In Our Hearts zine, a Digital-Only Danganronpa Zine dedicated to unpopular characters in the franchise- which donated $1300 to the Kids In Need Foundation. (https://twitter.com/InOurHeartsZine)
Saishii is also currently the Instagram Mod, Discord Mod, Pinch Hitter as both a Page Artist and Merch Artist, and General Assistant for the Dance of Despair zine, a Physical Danganronpa Zine about the characters having fun at Prom using the 10th Anniversary designs! As of the time of this question, that zine is undergoing the Production phase, and is planning to donate to the Charity NAMI. (https://www.instagram.com/danceofdespairzine/)
And thank you for the support! This idea is quite the ambitious one, but I'm really glad to hear that so many people are interested in this project!
Thank you for the question!
Hello, I've read the guidelines and apparently, we'll be assigned to a character? Can't we pick a character by ourselves? And after we finish a piece for the our assigned character can we do another piece for maybe a character that isn't assigned to anyone/fav character?
Howdy!
I'd like to apologize, as this is entirely my fault for not being clear in the guidelines. I was hoping to expand on those properly for applications, but in my error I've left them too vague currently. I'd like to apologize once again for the trouble, and take the time to clarify the Guidelines a bit more.
Yes, characters will be assigned. This is mainly to make sure a wide variety of DR characters get to be included, and to prevent an influx of certain characters getting much more content than the rest of the cast in the zine.
During applications, Contributors will be able to ask for the top 6 (or more depending on the rosters available after the Interest Check) characters they'd like to create for, as well as listing any characters they'd like to avoid being assigned. This is to make sure that even people that like the more traditionally popular characters out of the casts have a good shot at creating who they would like to, aren't generally locked out of being able to participate in the zine due to character preferences, and won't get stuck creating content for a character they wouldn't feel passionate about.
Contributors will be allowed to sign up to create for multiple characters, should they feel confident they can do so. This option will be included in the interest check.
As this zine intends for each character to have their own individual piece dedicated to them, and the large roster that will be worked with (between 48-68+ characters depending on the Interest Check) and hopefully every character to be included, this is what has been decided to be the fairest way to go about making sure every character gets included and that character assignment is fair.
Exceptions to this would be the Cover Artist position, as they would be drawing the front and back cover, would be given more leeway with their character choices for what they'd like to draw. Merch Artists will get a separate checklist, although still mainly following the one character per piece rule, with few exceptions such as full class/game related merchandise to make sure a wide variety of characters are represented.
This is actually similar to how the zines I've moderated for operated, to help diversify character inclusion and to keep variety in the casts without character biases or avoidance. I feel it has worked well in those cases, and so I feel confident in using it for this zine to help keep the balance between character inclusion and contributor choice fair.
The About and Guidelines Pages will be updated to properly reflect this new information.
If there are additional questions about this process, please feel free to send them! I'll do my best to answer them appropriately to help avoid confusion as much as possible.
Thank you so much for the question!
hiya! who is/are your current mods? and are you accepting intern positions? thank you!
Hello! Currently as of right now, the only mod on the team is Mod Saishii. You can learn more about her and her role on the zine on the Carrd (https://drbdayzine.carrd.co/#mods) or the Tumblr (https://drbdayzine.tumblr.com/mods).
As for intern positions, as of the moment it will be a no sadly. While I (Mod Saishii) have some experience with moderating zines, I would not be confident in a teaching position for interns quite yet, and cannot speak on behalf of the mods that will be a part of the team in the future.
Thank you for the question!
