What’s the crew’s plans for their trip to Tural? Will there be more work to pick up while there? Questionable financial decisions being made? Full-blown vacation mode with a food tour and everything?
Darius is making sure everyone knows this is a BUSINESS TRIP. They are going to Tural for WORK and not to just goof off. It's a rare opportunity to play as many sides of the succession contest as possible in order to rake in ridiculous amounts of gil.
So naturally everyone's planning on goofing off.
What was Darius first time using a weapon like?
Darius's first experience with any weapon was against Cyrus with wooden training swords when he was 9-ish. He was, expectedly, outmatched and got knocked onto his ass.
As Darius was getting back up, Cyrus decided he was gonna take his training sword and hit his little brother in the head as hard as he could.
Split Darius's scalp open, blood everywhere, lots of yelling, got in trouble. Typical Cyrus.
Darius still has the scar on his scalp.
Tell us the most fucked up pieces of Darius lore
I feel like he doesn't really have a lot, but I'll try my best, just for you.
The company has defeated enemies before who Darius then went to "hand over to the authorities". But in actuality he brought them somewhere out of sight and killed them.
He's in a toxic relationship with someone who actively feeds off of people's misery. He knows it's toxic but he doesn't care.
In the Eighth Umbral Calamity timeline, Cyrus survives into old age and becomes increasingly paranoid about Darius- to the point where he orders his subordinates to find him and kill him despite Darius having been dead for 20 years at that point and Cyrus having learned of it shortly after it happened.
What's something Darius hopes he has taught or passed down to Kamui?
Darius's biggest hope for anything he taught Kamui was that it's okay to let go of your past and just live your own way.
The kid agonizes over what he considers to be his duty- avenging his destroyed clan. His retainers died to keep him from harm and he feels an obligation to avenge them... But nothing's going to bring them back- and he's twelve, what's he supposed to do?
Also, Darius makes sure to teach the kid a thing or two about engineering and metallurgy.
Is it true that your sub is free now (retainers not included) since you were a legacy person? Someone said something like this to me in game once
When did Darius go from 'this is just my character in a video game' to 'here's Darius Stormcrow and his 53 pages of lore'?
It's the opposite, actually! Darius began as "Here's an OC with a million pages of lore" and got a version of himself dropped into FFXIV as a character for the setting.
In terms of his FFXIV lore starting to take shape, I'd say it was around late 1.0 when we knew that 2.0 was on the way. He was always gonna be a Garlean deserter, but initially he was gonna be a conscript from Ala Mhigo. At some point in Heavensward, he got a rework to be half-Garlean.
If your characters where based in other FF games, which ones would they be in and why?
Darius would probably be most at home in FF6, being an ex-imperial who messes around with Magitek. He'd probably be a member of the returners who deals with stolen magitek.
Odette would fit best in FF9, being a dashing lady knight like she is, but not a serious enough character to fit into the FF Tactics setting.
Samga feels like she'd fit in FF10 or FF8 best. Although if she was in 8 she'd be doubling up with Squall as TACITURN TEENAGERS.
What’s considered an average day for Darius? Anything specific with his mercenary company in particular?
Depending on what the workload is, he'll usually wake up around 8-9, make coffee, and cook breakfast for himself and possibly anyone else he's with at the moment.
Then it's either work at the company's headquarters(their house) to do paperwork(laze around) until work comes in, or do commission work on machinery at his workshop/smithy. Then it's usually work until dinner time where he usually winds up having to cook for the whole company.
Depending on how close to being broke the company is, there's a good chance that going to procure dinner is also part of the daily routine.
If there's a job, that of course all changes, as the group is likely on the road.
Despite it all, any jank in 1.0 that you miss?
I do miss some of the more complicated battle mechanics. Physical damage types being split between slashing/piercing/striking, and types of elemental damage. Also, you could damage parts of some enemies by dealing certain types of damage from certain positions, like breaking an Aldgoat's horns with striking damage.
Was it very useful? Not really. But it was neat.
Is there a One True Eyepatch for Darius, or does he have a selection of favorites in the sea of eyepatches he seems to own.
What are your character's deepest regrets? The ones that torture them and keep them up at night?
One time, he tried to pull open a door that was clearly labeled 'push' and a bunch of people saw it.
But as for a serious answer, he probably most regrets abandoning the Ala Mhigan resistance when Baelsar's wall was starting to go up- and fleeing South into Eorzea. There are people who he left behind that he never got to see again.
