Hi! I just saw that applications were extended and I was just wondering. When can we expect the confirmation mails?
Hi there! We have just updated our schedule, which can be seen on our info document and our website.
Results for all contributor applications will be sent on the 28th of April. Thank you for your question 🧡
hello! i'm a bit confused by a few questions in the apps, mainly: "State and rank your preferred units to create a piece for, 1 being the unit you most want to create for.
*
A minimum of three (3) units must be stated, and a maximum of five (5) groups."
what if in the question above i pitched something like adonis and his sisters? do i write undead in that case? or if i pitched kuro and shu, should i put in both valkyrie and akatsuki?
Hi there! For the first question, it is as our examples stated:
e.g. fine - 1
Modelgumi - 2
Amagi brothers - 3
Eccentrics - 4
Similar to "Amagi brothers" unit, an Adonis and his sisters unit should be stated as "Adonis and his sisters" - 1, for example.
For a Kuro and Shu unit, do state "Kuro and Shu" - 2, as stating "Valkyrie and Akatsuki" -2 would mean you are creating a piece that features all 3 members of Akatsuki and the 2 members of Valkyrie together.
If you require more clarification, feel free to send another retrospring, or DM us on our twitter or tumblr.
For the second question, we require you to name at least three units you are willing to create content for. This is to ensure variety in characters featured in this zine. By units, we don't mean only group units, but units/groups of character(s) you're willing to create for. An example is as follows:
Rei Sakuma - 1
HiMERU and his brother - 2
Kanata, Souma, Madara - 3
Branco - 4
Pretty 5 - 5
We hope this clears up any doubts you have! Thank you for your question 🧡
is it possible to apply to this zine with little knowledge of enstars lore? i only play it for the rhythm game 😅
Hi there! This would depend on the role and content you intend to fulfill in this fanzine. As writers will need to write a short story based around the childhoods of ES!! characters, writers need to at least know the canon backstory of the characters they want to write. Even if they were creating fanon content for their work, understanding of the relevant characters for characterisation will still be important.
Artists are strongly recommended to have knowledge of the canon backstories of the characters they wish to portray, but it is not necessarily needed should you choose to create fanon content for this project.
Do note that when submitting the three (3) samples in your application, one of them must be a completed piece featuring Ensemble Stars!! characters. Thank you for your question 🧡
Do we need both 3 piece sample and a portfolio on the application for contributer? Cause i put 3 pieces and it still wants me to submit a portfolio
Hi there! Yes, it is compulsory to submit a portfolio on top of the three (3) individual samples to be a contributor for this fanzine. This is a general guideline that must be adhered to when applying for any role. Should your application not follow the guidelines detailed in our info doc and carrd, your application will be dismissed and result in immediate rejection. Thank you for your question 🧡
are NPCs allowed as part of the piece? an example would be kohaku's sisters on the background or on the side while kohaku is still the focus on the piece?
Hi there! Yes, NPCs such as Kohaku's sisters, Leo's sister, Kuro's sister, Shu's grandfather, Kaoru's family etc. can all be featured in the final work you submit for this zine, as long as an Ensemble Stars!! character and their childhood remains the focus of the piece! Thank you for your question 🧡
hello, what is the reason your mod apps note that the finance mod has to "supply" the finance budget? does that mean they have to pay out of pocket if the project doesn't break even rather than just canceling the project? it also says that "Should we fail to break even, you will still be completely compensated for the money you have spent on the zine" but like... with what money? thanks for answering, appreciate your dedication to transparency!
Hi there! By "supply", we mean that our finance mod has to provide the budget, the budget being the financial planning and budgeting for this zine's production, not the monetary supply of funds needed to complete physical fulfillment.
Cancelling the project completely will not take place under any circumstances once our contributors have joined us, as it would be disrespectful and disappointing to the hard work and effort they've put into committing and creating works exclusively for this fanzine.
If we fail to break even but achieve a decent amount of sales, we will focus on fulfilling either a zine-only physical project or a merch-only physical project, whichever we are able to break even for. If there is a severe lack of interest and sales (<5 total sales, for example), we will convert this fanzine into a digital-only project. Of course, we will contact buyers accordingly to process the necessary partial refunds due to the product changes, or full refunds if they do not wish to purchase our fanzine anymore because of the changes above.
Any funds spent by the finance mod before the circumstances above will likely be used to print samples of merch items, or a sample copy of the zine. We are very unlikely to spend money to print merch samples or a sample copy of the zine until our sales break even, as printing samples are part of the cost to produce the fanzine and project, and any money used for such samples will come from the zine's finances.
If there is a situation where personal funds have been spent by the finance mod with agreement from the mod team and the project fails to break even after preorders, organisation mod agcalcium will repay the finance mod out of pocket accordingly. Thank you for your question 🧡
hi!! i was working on my application and just wanted to double check the difference between samples and portfolio?
Hi there! No worries, thank you for checking in with us! The form will ask for Sample #1, Sample #2 and Sample #3: these three (3) individual works will be the works that the moderators will look at primarily when evaluating applications.
Your portfolio is a collection of other works that you want to include in your application that may or may not in your three (3) samples. Your portfolio may include some or all of the three individual samples. Your portfolio will be used in these occasions, but are not limited to: should there be tiebreakers for accepting applicants, or when contacting pinch hitters.
We hope this clears up your confusion! Thank you for your question 🧡
About how many contributors of each type are you expecting to accept? Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere
Hi there! We are looking to accept 15-20 page artists, 5 merch artists and 5 writers, excluding guests (numbers are subject to change). Thank you for your question 🧡
It said that this zine is for-charity, may I ask where will you donate the funds to? ^^
Hi there! The charity of this zine has not been decided yet as the moderator team would like the input of the contributors as well, since their hard work will be going towards said charity.
We will be deciding the charity in question later on in the project timeline, and will announce our choice on our social media accounts afterwards. Thank you for your question 🧡
hello!! is a tumblr blog an acceptable form of portfolio?
Hi there! Yes, a Tumblr blog or social media account is accepted as a portfolio. For the convenience of our moderators, please have your art tagged with #my art or similar filter tags.
Do note that should your portfolio have above fifteen (15) works, our art mod will choose selected works in your given portfolio at their own discretion. We strongly encourage applicants to tailor their portfolio to the theme of this fanzine, and curate the works included accordingly. Thank you for your question 🧡
im really interested in participating in this zine as an artist! but its my first time applying for one, and im a little creeped out by the need for my email address- may i ask why this is necessary? can i apply if i'm not comfortable sharing that information, especially since it already asks for my SNS and discord? thank you!
Hi there! Let us preface that all information given to us during this contributor application period will be kept strictly confidential, and won't be shared with others beyond the moderating team.
Emails are the most convenient way to send the results of application to all applicants compared to individual DMs on various social media platforms, hence the collection of emails. We ask for your SNS to ensure we have a secondary way of communicating to applicants should there have been no response to our emails. We will be rejecting applicants who apply without emails, as we will be sending results through email only. We seek your understanding in this matter.
We apologise for collecting discords so far, the mod team has realised it was unnecessary and will be removing it from the forms. Thank you for your question 🧡
In the application form, it says to fill it in with a discord tag with #NNNN (discords old tag system) but I’m not sure I have one with the number tag? Is just my discord username ok?
Hi there! The mod team apologises for the complications on collecting discord, we have realised it was unnecessary and will be removing it from the forms. Thank you for your question 🧡
a lot of characters have difficult childhoods in canon and i was thinking about asking this on other socials but id like to know how the tone/content moderation of this zine is going to work?
We understand that the childhoods of various characters in enstars!! touch on difficult topics. The mod team will work with the accepted contributors to ensure all content in the zine is portrayed with sensitivity and falls within the realm of canon typical content.
We will not allow overtly graphic descriptions and depictions in the pieces created for our zine. We will allow for canon typical content with the condition that it is reasonable within the theme and context of children (e.g. fighting is acceptable, guns are not), and will ensure it is not the primary focus of any written piece. We will reject fanon-based pitches which intensity goes beyond canon typical content.
Additionally, the mod team will work to ensure a healthy blend of lighter and darker topics within the zine. We are aware some degree of heaviness is unavoidable due to the canon content, hence the flexibility in defining the zine's theme which allows contributors to create light-hearted fanon content. We will prioritise having more light-hearted content, as this fanzine was marketed as such (our graphics, etc). Thank you for your question 🧡
I don't think my question went through so I'm resending just in case sorry- If my 18th birthday is DURING december 2024, would I still be able to participate?
Hi there! We did not get two questions, don't worry about that!
Yes, as long as you turn 18 before 1st January 2025, you can apply to participate in this fanzine; we apologise for the ambiguous wording of our guidelines. Thank you for your question!
How many examples would you like applicants to present during the application process? Is there a certain level of quality you’re looking for?
Three samples are required, as well as a portfolio of works. For a more detailed response, please refer to our answer for the question "How much art should we have as a reference?".
For quality, we only ask that all samples and pieces provided in your portfolio will be of a similar quality and style as the piece you will create for this fanzine.
More detailed requirements and role-specific requirements will be released before March in our carrd and information document, so do look out for it then! Thank you for your question 🧡
