Retrospring is shutting down on 1st March, 2025 Read more
An 18+, non-profit, digital-only zine centered around the main protagonist from the Trigun series, Vash the Stampede!
For the "Ship(s), Trigger Warnings (TWs), and Content Tags" sections, do you want us to include the types of tags we would put on ao3 that aren't content warnings? (like "hurt/comfort" or "fluff"). Just want to make sure, so I don't put a bunch of tags you don't need!
You're getting all your donuts in a row, and we love it!
More tags are absolutely encouraged! "Content Tags" include any "Additional Tags" you would tag when posting to AO3.
We look forward to receiving your application!
i really want to apply and would be happy to write for any of the zines! because of that i'm not sure what to select for my samples, can you give advise? thank youuuuuuu
We are so excited that you want to apply!
As for choosing samples, we want to see what you would consider your best work! We encourage Trigun pieces, but if you do not have any yet, that's okay! It also depends on which zine(s) you wish to contribute to. Send samples that would reflect what you would like to contribute!
Hope this helps even a little bit, and we look forward to your application!
Hi! I'm not applying, I'm just curious - is there a reason why underage characters in explicit content must be 13 or over? I really am just curious since your guidelines are so consider and thorough to an impressive degree! Is it for legal reasons?
Thank you so much for your time, and best of luck with the project!! The whole aesthetic is super cute, even the retrospring 🥰
Thank you for visiting our bakery, and we'd be happy to answer your question!
As for the specifics regarding explicit content, there are several factors involved. As we are not a for-print project, it gives us more control and freedom over the content that we choose to include. Though we are a pro-fic/pro-ship zine and mod team, we needed to set hard limits regarding age for the comfort of those working on this project. Like most, we host our zine communication through Discord, which has very strict rules regarding explicit content.
Thank you for your support!
is it okay if the writing samples are like 100 words longer/shorter than the specified length?
Thanks for asking!
Regarding the word count criteria, you can submit pieces that are slightly under or over the word count by about 250 words.
We hope that helps, and we look forward to your submission!!
I know writing samples have to be submitted as docs to avoid bias, is it alright if the pieces have already been uploaded to ao3 though?
Absolutely! If you're proud of the donuts you've already baked and shared, we want a taste too!
We anticipate that most applicants with supply samples of pre-published works. It is always possible that a mod will recognize your writing. In that case, a mod may abstain from voting if they feel their opinion would be in any way biased toward an applicant.
We look forward to receiving your application!
Hi! So excited for this zine! Do you know what the expected word count is for writers who are accepted? Also, how many writers and artists are you expecting to bring onto the project? Thanks!!
There are donuts in the air and we love it!
Writers are going to create fics between 2,000 and 4,000 words. The number of contributors we accept will likely depend on the volume of applications received, so we cannot speak to a definitive number at this time.
*We're looking forward to your submission!! *
Will Vash/Knives works be exclusively in the Problematic zine?
This is a GREAT QUESTION!
Due to the representation of characters in the Trigun fandom, most ships could be considered problematic due to the following:
• age difference (i.e. Vash being up to 150 years old)
• interspecies (i.e. Plant x Human)
• incestuous / pseudo-incestuous (i.e. Vash x Knives, Nico x Livio)
• forced age-progression of underage individuals (i.e. Nico, Livio)
For this reason, ships will NOT dictate whether a work is categorized in SFW, NSFW, or Problematic. All ships will be allowed across all three zines.
Hiii, is there a reason the applications have both a spot to put your contact email, and an email logging requirement? I'd love to apply, but I don’t want to make a throwaway Google account to do it, and the email logging means only people with a Google account can apply
Thanks for your patience!
The sign-in requirement was removed once we were made aware of it on June 15. https://twitter.com/makersdozenzine/status/1669354918015295490?s=20
That said, because our apps are blind and we are requiring Google Docs and Google Drive links, a Google account is required. You do not have to create a new email—Google allows you to sign up with any email account. (i.e. [email protected], [email protected]).
We hope this helps and look forward to reviewing your application!
Hey! Just wondering what the word count will be for applying writers! (Not the crumbs, but for the actual Zine piece itself.)
You're getting down to the donut!
The word count for writers in the actual zine will be 2,000-4,000 words!
For the writer application I see that one of the criteria is a 1500-3000 word sample. Is this a firm requirement, or can I still submit pieces that go under/over that word count?
Thanks for asking!
In regards to the word count criteria, you are able to submit pieces that are slightly under or over the word count by about 250 words.
We hope that helps and we look forward to your submission!!
will I be able to sell my art as a print after the zine is published?
Hey! Thanks for asking.
You will be able to sell your art as a print after a given period of time (likely two weeks) once the zine is published, just like writers will be able to post their work to whatever site or format they would like to afterwards.
Thanks so much for your support and patience with us!
Is it possible to apply as an artist but remain anonymous as a contributor? Don't mind sharing who I am in the applications just don't feel comfortable letting people know outside of the zine. Since I worry about dealing with aggressive fans and would like to avoid it if I can. >< Thank you so much for your time.
Hi Anonymous Donut!
You can absolutely remain anonymous as a contributor. This applies to both artists and writers.
