Was it Anne Rice’s doing (‘Interview With the Vampire’), or was it happening before?Serial killers in fiction have become much more clever and sophisticated over the last few decades (think Hannibal Lecter) and are now portrayed as more heroic generally. Today they’re attractively flawed humans rather than indiscriminate butchers. And vampires have suffered the same fate. Biting someone’s jugular at the neck is a very intimate act, and intimacy = sex to film producers. To sell your film you must have good-looking actors, so vampires now look like Tom Cruise and Robert Sex-On-A-Stick Pattison.
