What is the best way to celebrate your birthday when you're in national lockdown and live alone...?

This is what I’d do, but it means planning in advance. Order yourself a couple of really nice things; things that you really want but maybe wouldn’t normally splurge on. You can do one of two things next. Don’t open them when they arrive - keep them until the day to open them. Or open them, put each thing in a box, wrap them with the same paper, then put them away until the day - that way it’s almost still a surprise because you don’t know which ‘present’ you’re getting first. Have your very most favourite foods - either bought in ready to cook yourself, or get it delivered. Be indulgent and eat the things you don’t normally eat because they’re ‘bad for you’. Really spoil yourself. Watch your favourite films. Have an afternoon snooze. Wear your most beautiful clothes and lounge around in them. FaceTime with your family and friends. Eat cake for breakfast. Wear a flamboyant dressing gown and hat all day - there’s a gift idea for yourself. Play music really loud and dive around every room in your house. Get your super-duper cordless hoover out and go wild - think of all those cake crumbs! Spend the entire day in bed - propped up eating all your delicious food, lying down watching movies, snoozing in between. Make it memorable. Because in 10 years time you can look back and say, “Remember that birthday when I wafted around in a silk dressing gown and ate cake all day? That was amazing!”
