Did you ever feel like you're living in a simulation? What made you feel like this?

I was having a quick dinner earlier tonight in a restaurant in a department store. A very loud, colourful, over-the-top-in-everything woman came to the entrance, stood in in front of the restaurant’s name on the wall, and started taking selfies. She then asked the hostess to take pictures of her while she did the most ridiculous poses - I was embarrassed for her. This went on for ages. Then she asked for a drink of water - which she spilled on the floor as she posed for even more pics. I was cringing by this point. Trying not to guffaw with laughter. When she had enough pics, she thanked the hostess and walked off. She didn’t even buy a cup of coffee! I was finishing up and when the hostess came with my bill, I said that she’d have to take loads of pics of me on my way out. She laughed and replied, “Instagram rules the world.”

That woman got all those pictures of her standing outside a nice restaurant solely to post online to say “Look where I’m eating! Aren’t you jealous?” When she wasn’t doing anything of the sort. It was all made up. A total lie. That’s what life is to an ever-growing amount of people now: trying to keep up with people they’ve never met on the internet who are churning out a load of absolute bullshit every single day. A simulation of life.
