Could you imagine that one day all cars will drive on their own, that we just have to sit in them and they drive us to our destination?
It's going to be a damned mess, at least at first. Things like liability/insurance in collisions, technical security/hacking, just general malfunctions (like it doesn't 'see' something in the road for some reason and plows through it, or plows through someone's living room because a road got redone and the map didn't update)
Oh, Updates! People avoid updating fucking iOS and Windows (we had to take away someone's phone at work last year because they ran iOS 7 in 2018 and refused to update), somebody will sabotage their car to stop it from getting updates - even if they are automatic and mandatory that will 100% happen if and when self-driving cars become a common product in peoples garages, some WILL fuck with the software. Oh, and if they are received, let's hope those updates don't break anything. Also there is the 'trolley problem' situation, where the car would have to 'decide' whether to swerve to miss the van full of pre-schoolers but hit the old man in the crosswalk. Maybe the van is a no-brainer to some, but I'm sure that will be super comforting to that man's family and their lawyers
Anyway. It's fraught with land mines and I sincerely hope they take the time to work all this shit out before they unleash the tech on the public, instead of doing all our testing in production, as is becoming the way
