I have read 86 with your translation, and I don't find any propaganda. Unfortunately, the person who is slandering you has made quite a lot of noise, I hope that this does not harm your work environment.
Sorry you have to deal with this kind of reaction with 86. You'd think readers of a series that focuses on the complex reality of racism and nationalism and emphasizes there's more to it than one group good, one group bad or that any group is monolithic in experience would take a moment to reflect.
Do you play VGC or Pokemon Showdown?
I remember you advocating to buy VN lest the industry dies but seeing this - https://x.com/brutaka3/status/1890402595576983594
How can one justify paying money for this? Don't think it's the customers' fault if they don't want to buy stuff that's been cut like this
When I first saw it I thought people were making a fuss about an all ages version being released (there are some people who think going all ages at all is a betrayal), but yeah, there are very extreme cuts.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying you have to buy everything that's put out. But let's be real, piracy is extremely rampant in VNs and the English publishing scene (which this release of Kanon is afaik not involved in) is small enough that it does a lot of damage. Now I get why people pirate, and let's be real, everyone pirated or pirate something, be it because of high costs or financial trouble or even just ease of access. But you need to make a distinction between boycotting a big AAA company making millions and boycotting a small publisher that hardly breaks even on a good day. And cases as dire as Kanon here are far from the norm. We're at a point where you have probably dozens of releases across the board yearly and most of them are fine, but people still make blanket statements about how all localizers need to die, even though I'm pretty sure for the majority of them they'd be hard pressed to find anything wrong or egregious enough to bring up. It just becomes virtue signaling and screaming into the echo chamber.
Be critical of what you're getting and ignore releases that offend you, but don't throw the baby out with the bath water. People say the wildest things at the drop of a hat.
But yeah, otherwise I agree this release of Kanon goes too far.
I'm visiting Japan in a few months. Any reccomendations for best places to buy manga/LNs?
Best new FGO valentine's scene of 2025?
Counting down the days until this shithole of a site gets nuked off the face of the internet?
fwiw I wouldn't take people's opinions about you too personally, they're just (and may allah forgive me for allowing this term to pass my lips) virtue signalling.
they're the sorts of people who would read 86 and miss the point anyway, so they shouldn't bother
I don't take it very personally (mainly because I wasn't personally close with anyone in that community to begin with) and I've developed thick skin for this kind of hatred after enough time on the internet. I get a lot of hate messages that I just delete and ignore, so believe me, I'm good at letting stuff bounce off of me. But seeing callout posts out of nowhere is still unnerving.
What other definition of Zionist is there? If you are one and proud of it then just be that man
That I believe Israel has a right to exist, that's all there is to it.As I've expressed in the past, I'm all in favor of a peaceful settlement of the conflict and I don't like living with the sword of damocles of war looming over my head.
IMO it's a very lukewarm take, but some people seem to think that believing the country you were born and raised in has a right to exist is an extremist thought and that I'm a bad person for not cheering for the people dropping rockets over my city.
Claiming "I'm not a zionist" while still following multiple zionist propaganda accounts on here is hilarious. I just think you're lucky that likes aren't public anymore. You're probably still liking visegrad24 tweets lbr.
I'm curious: Without bashing you, what was your thought process behind that line that people keep using against you?
saw a random person on twitter say you’re a zionist and are inserting propaganda into 86. surely this isnt true
The people saying this are jumping at shadows - the line in question a biblical quote about going down while taking down your enemies with you, which I thought was an appropriate descriptor and biblical quotes are used quite often in 86.
I don't put propoganda into my work, and frankly the entire situation just feels like people found out I'm Israeli, got upset at me for not being sorry enough for being one and decided to write callout posts about it when they found one line that can be read as adjacently zionist.
Sadly I've gotten used to people turning on me on the basis of my nationality over the course of the last two years, but having people who were once very supportive of me make callout posts asking for my work to be boycotted is still hurtful (even though it is well within their rights). But in case this needs to be pointed out - no, I don't insert politics into my work, if anything working on fiction is how I distract myself from politics.
I hope this clears it up.
Just saw your tweet. I want you to know that there’s at least one 86 fan that is not speaking foul of you, even knowing your origins. Hope you enjoyed Valentine’s Day today!
Happy late Valentine's! Here, brought you some Belgian dark chocolate. 🍫🍫
Technical side of things aside, what do you feel should be improved about GSS in the remake? Any rewrites you're expecting?
