Do you think that MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) can effectively replace a traditional in-person learning experience for someone who cannot afford the costs of attending university?

Yes. If lectures are suplamented by video (livefeeds) and your online professor is willing to video conference. I used to use WebEx with a few of mine whenever I had questions about anything.

It'll probably be harder for more hands on learners trying to pick up a trade though.
