Helps make sure that people who may want to follow them think twice about it and avoids having even more followers that bother them with comments like 'lol how can you make x a top,' 'can you draw y as a bottom,' 'not my thing lol personally i prefer z but pretty art!!'

I'll simplify it for anon: It's like having star and heart-shaped chicken nuggets. People get plates of the shape they want. The shape is /literally there/ so don't like, get another plate--don't be weird and throw a fit. If you're just here for nuggets, feel free to get anything. But when someone asks for star shaped nuggets, don't give them hearts. People will wonder why you're insisting hearts and stars are the same when everyone else can see they're different.

Jiji is trying to cater to both western and japanese/asian audiences, so making the ship tags like they use in japan, just makes it easier to please everyone, since some people are stricker about the ship tags. Part 3. We have been in the internet for pretty damn long time compared to orhers and we are used to do things our way, just simply to make things easier. Like the anon used the example about sk8 and machablossom, that is the english fandom ship name and I'm pretty damn sure it's character specified in japan.

Part 2. Some people prefer to see only top Zhongli (in zhongchi) for example so it's easier to weed out the other content if there are specified names, especially in larger fandoms like Genshin. I have seen multiple people tagging pics and videos on internet with both tags like for example #bottomzhongli #topzhongli and same with childe in one post just for the clout and more interactions with fans.

Part 1. It's ya friend here. But I also can't understand these anons. For many years in Japan especially all the ships, even if they have same characters in it were specified with the two different ship names. This was also a super common practise in west for long time, and caused some ship wars in tumblr back in around 2014-2016 (because people didn't use the right ship tags).

The last time general tags were used was in what, pokemon fandom? And I jump fandoms a lot.

Literally almost everyone who's an artist/author here stick to the rules and understand the different tags because /it makes it easier/ than just using a general tag and risk seeing hate from those who have different preferences. Preferences are just .. there. Because people like some things and some they don't. It's not that deep. We just like our peace, anon. So I can't really respect/see your point.

I’m also saying this based on my experience because genshin shippers are insufferable. I got ratioed for calling an “ayathoma” art thomato once but it’s barely even nsfw! It’s easier if the fandom can just agree on one ship name and add some hashtag if it’s meant to be a specific top bottom. Thomato is already a pretty name since it sounds like 🍅 so everyone will call it thomato regardless of top bottom dynamics.

You’re saying I’m trolling but I’m being genuinely serious. For example matchablossom is a ship name for joe + kaoru and people use it regardless of top bottom. I just don’t see why is it not possible for thomato or genshin ship in general. We already have a pretty name for the ship why butcher it just because of top bottom roles? People can always mute tags like #bottomthoma or #bottomayato if they don’t want to see it.
