What are you doing to protect your online privacy? (If the answer is "nothing", I'm happy to provide some advice!)

  • I avoid expressing strong opinions too publicly online, in English, because that's how I can get harassed/doxxed.
  • I avoid mainstream social media as much as possible.
  • I nuked my Google account many years ago.
  • I have LineageOS on my phone, with microG installed, so that I don't need Google Play.
  • I pay for a mailbox.org mail address. The SMTP server is set to encrypt all incoming emails with my GPG key so that it is at least encrypted at rest. I used to use Protonmail, but got annoyed with their whole "fuck internet protocols let's reinvent the wheel". It's on my own domain so I can change providers at any time.
  • I have ad blockers installed everywhere, and hosts files filled with blocklists, even on my old Windows 2000/XP systems.
  • I use Nebulo to block ads on Android apps (for some reason the official repo is down, you can go look at this GitHub mirror instead).
  • I use pass as my password manager.
  • My GitHub account is solely for contributing to other projects, I have my repos on Tildegit.org, so that the code isn't used to train AI or stuff like that.
