Just got verbally bullied at the ferry. I thought that'd never happen to me as an adult. Should I feel bad or try to understand what was going on inside their minds?

Feel bad that some people are relentlessly jerks? I think that's fair. Kind of hard to avoid feeling bad about that, in my experience.

Feel bad about yourself? Naw, naw, that ain't right. We luv ya.

I think it can be valuable to some degree, of course, to extend compassion and grace to relentless jerks. But I also think you can just unnecessarily burden yourself that way. Like dudes trying to impress their friends in public by acting really weak and insecure, by mocking someone else? It's not that deep. I drove myself a little crazy making it too deep and thinking of those guys as victims a few years back. Then it just hurt more, because i was just sitting around and wishing people loved each other, and that everyone wasn't in pain like this over an additional thing. I think it's better just to be like 'huh, yeah, jerks,' and try not to dwell on it. But that's me, maybe it makes other people feel better.
