What are your thoughts on the rise of other Asian media like Korean Manhwa and Chinese Danmei?

I think more good stories are always a good thing! That’s basically it lol. I mainly consume JP media because I both grew up on and and, well, live and breathe it now, so I can’t really speak about how I feel about each type of media relative to each other, but the more cakes the better, right?

strange question: are bell peppers/capsicum/パプリカ vs ピーマン the same thing... i've always assumed so bc ripeness/age (see: button vs portobello mushroom) but. i don't live in jp and google is sending me mixed messages so

I’m pretty sure that ピーマン generally refers to green pepper while パプリカ is red, orange and yellow! At least that’s what I’ve observed in supermarkets. I know there are 赤いピーマン which makes me believe there’s probably some sort of technical difference (probably that ピーマン are a bit smaller/more bitter than パプリカ) but generally speaking I think you’d be fine thinking of them as I described.

Will you be able to include a black/dark skin female lead in your next manga?

I sent you an ask on Tumblr saying that your manga was my first manga in Japanese and I wanted to let you know that I really enjoyed what I've read! I've skimmed all of it and only really taken the time to really read parts here and there, but I've laughed quite a bit and I'm really interested in seeing where the story is going (chapter 6 especially had some good "oh shit" moments iirc). I'm really happy to read your work both new and old and I'm very excited to see what you'll make in the future!

Thank you for sticking with it!! Post chapter 5 there’s a slight tonal shift and it’s been fun to tackle it. Still learning as I go, though! By the way…do you have any favorite characters 👀 (you might have mentioned before in your ask on tumblr, so sorry if I forgot!)

Please feel free to ignore this if it's too personal/complicated to explain for any reason, but what made you decide to become a mangaka?

It’s not complicated at all! I’ve always loved comics because I like writing and drawing, and I grew up reading manga. So naturally I gravitated to making the same thing. I initially never intended to work or even live in Japan, but I always wanted to draw comics like the manga I loved to read growing up. So that’s the gist of it!

hello!! I hope I don't come across as insensitive but I was really impressed by how much your art improved from the oneshot you recently mentioned, when compared to the first chapter of your current serialization!! my question is whether you carve out time in your schedule to work on art fundamentals or is it more like you just keep drawing and it improves through the sheer amount of time it takes to create manuscripts?

OH I see the kind that's EXTRA sharp/dry... and could burn ur throat like... (idk what's famous outside of SEA...) uh... heinz white vinegar?

(Edible*) powdered citric acid maybe? apple cider vinegar could work if the acid isn't the only flvr... (bc the apple flvr is faintly present), worse case scenario i guess there's always lemon juice?

asterisk is there bc i found out JP has citric acid for cleaning LOL. also sorry if i seem weirdly enthusiastic, i love my edible acids LMAO

Heinz white vinegar is exactly what I’m looking for LOL! Apple cider would work too but I’m having an equally difficult time finding that here so I’m thinking of either forking over the money for white vinegar online or yeah, just using lemon juice… and don’t worry at all, I am an edible acid fan as well (…not sure if that’s a good thing 😂)

i saw ur vinegar struggle tweet and like... i'm kinda curious about what u meant by white vinegar bc of cultural/regional differences + in SEA (SG/MY specifically), white vinegar refers to white rice vinegar (usually the chinese kind 白米醋, which is slightly different from the JP kind in flavour) but it's also interchangeable with artificial vinegar (aka acetic acid in liquid form, skipping the fermentation)

The type of white vinegar I’m looking for is also called distilled vinegar, and it’s made from ethanol from grain alcohol! It’s a bit different from rice vinegar in that it has a tarter taste profile (rice vinegar tends to taste sweeter), and since I’m using this for cooking I need it for the taste

Congrats on the mhyk anime btw (just. hoping it doesn't get the half-arsed treatment most joseimuke stuff gets... sometimes i gotta remind myself i7 is an anomaly, not the norm 🥴)

Yeah……..I’m trying focus on being positive while I can LOL. I still haven’t forgotten the a3 anime…

Just wanted to say that your coloring skills are really great! I was surprised by your tweet about coloring being your least favorite part in the process iirc? Actually... what is your process? Is it talking to editor about the basic plot -> layout -> sketch -> inks -> screentones for the chapter and then working on the cover?

Thank you! My process is generally like how you described! I’ll explain more in a thread:

also not to be a creep but I think we saw it at the same time and place (BTP day 2)... I just saw ur tweet about it... So sorry about this aakjskjaakls I wish I could say hi properly

Omg really?? I kinda bounced right after that since Shinjuku isn’t my fave place to be but what a coincidence!!

Does your magazine and/or editor give you guidance on marketing your manga or anything that's not directly related to the creation of your manga? I was always curious as to whether they might give you a guide or something about social media algorithms or how to do XYZ kinda thing? Or if most of the communication is strictly about reviewing your drafts and the logistics of the publication.

Anonymous Coward · 9mo

not a question, i just wanted to thank you for your localization work on A3! EN (was just missing the game and coincidentally saw your tweet looking for work haha)

Thank you!! The love the players had for that game makes every moment I worked on it worth it tenfold.

Hello! I've been a fan for a while, ever since I stumbled upon your art randomly on Twitter. Congrats on your debut!

Looking thru your older stories and current publication really made me want to draw again, esp more shoujo stuff :) So my question is - would you have any recommendations on art tutorials/books/resources on manga and paneling? Or any tips in general? I've mostly stuck with 4komas and struggle with drawing multiple pages coherently without feeling like I'm copying from existing manga...

Anonymous Coward · 9mo

Hi!! I'm the anon that asked about Japanese names haha, and I want to thank you so much for the detailed explanation! That definitely cleared things up for me, and it's so fascinating to me as well! Guess I've still got a long journey ahead! ᕦ(ò_ó)
