ooh good question! i actually, oddly, don't have many chitin facts on-hand. i know about arthropods but not always about chitin as thoroughly. that said, i learned just now from research (wikipedia) that mammals and plants both have immune responses to chitin, and you can use that to get your crops to like, trigger their immune responses to insects ahead of time!
