What are your thoughts on New Zealand having a 3 day national (and 7 day capital) lockdown after 1 case of the Delta COVID-19 variant being discovered?

if it's shown that confirmed delta cases end with less complications, I think it's not reasonable to do so.

we're way past of this meme virus to not getting endemic, why worry?

Ridiculous. If my kid got dragged out of school for that, I'd be writing letters to my MP or whatever it is they have over there. A regional lockdown would have been fair enough but a national one?

My cousin who's vaccinated just tested positive and she works from home, still wears a mask everywhere. It only takes a single slipup so I don't blame them for trying to control the situation before it gets out of hand. We aren't any closer to herd immunity because of the rate at which the virus is mutating. It might even become a new TB situation where it's required immunization from now until forever.

They have a strict rule of getting all viruses extinct as to avoid a wave of infection from the beginning. So far they were successful. When I count the times of strict lockdowns there and the times of weak "lockdowns" elsewhere on paper the strict lockdowns are not only more efficient, they seem also to be less damaging to economy and country and health infrastructure.
