I guess. Since old traits may become a contradiction to the past. Also if we live with multiple contradictory beliefs we've gained thoughout life, well, we live a life of contradiction. In such a case. Might as well change, since there would be no difference in being contradictory. Change isn't a bad thing.
Nope. The latter is not logically included in the former. Simply because "change" is a process and "contradiction" is a state in most cases. But even if both were of the same type the sentence would be logically without meaning. Logic aside, what could the author(s) have meant by it? I assume that what was meant to be said was that change might lead to unexpected and unwanted results and that when you pursue change you have to accept also those results in a way? Maybe. The world of sayings and proverbs and philosophically carved sentences is full with such unclear and often meaningless "heavy" "clever" " profound" "intellectual" sentences that aim to impress rather than enlighten us. Nevertheless there are impressive and meaningful sentences. But when you need to write an essay to discuss their probable meaning.. well... we might work ourselves to some new exciting knowledge that has the advantage of being the fruit of our own thinking plus we shed some light on it from a couple of sides, so it might not be as unclear as the above. :-)
