For all my art friends... qn for you: how do you feel about constructive critisism? Is it always welcome?

Sometimes yes. I just wish i was better at receiving it cause I never know if they are being sincere or not due to my low self-esteem, but I appreciate it even if I don't show it.

it depends on if i’m asking for it. sometimes i ask for help or criticism, but i don’t usually appreciate it randomly ;-;

Depends. All constructive criticism in my opinion will have their uses because I won't grow otherwise but when it's laced with a ton of venom and from a stranger then I wouldn't give it much of a glance.

I'm quite open to hearing how I can improve, but only when I'm really asking for advice

For me, I always welcome it because most of the time I'm looking for it. I don't trust myself with the initial first sketch, so I'm always looking for more opinions to make sure what I have going is well enough to continue!

Depends on whos giving it to me. Some people have been quite rude, especially those I don't know, however, so long as its constructive, I see no real issue with it from people I've befriended :))

Not much of an artist but I can at least speak on the writing front.

For me the answer is yes. 100%. I understand why people are not always receptive to it and I bear that in mind when I am the one in the position to give critique, but if I am sharing anything creative I am doing so knowing and HOPING someone may have some useful critique to give me.

Sometimes ego gets in the way to be truly receptive to criticism, but we can't get any better if we aren't told what we're doing wrong or how to improve upon our craft

I only really ask for criticism in private messages when I feel like there’s something missing/off! Other than that I don’t really welcome it in public replies

In Art school we learned to take and give constructive criticism only when it's ASKED for. I feel like it's a skill that has to be trained and learned and no one really talks about it because since most consider our works as /personal/ pieces, sometimes any form of opinion or criticism is taken as a direct attack or judgement on ourselves.
Going back to the question, again, if one ASKS for it is okay. On the other hand, if the person wants to give it, they have to offer and continue if the author gives them permission to. If not, pls just shut the up.
Unwanted opinions will never be welcome, of course.

As a person who's always second guessing themselves on the quality of their writing, as long they aren't just straight up bashing on it I appreciate an outside perspective
