I guess that my country had brief periods of that when there were drafts. Not quite what you're asking, but close enough.
I'm not fighting any wars that aren't mine, and shame on people who would do that willfully.
I'd look into border hopping if there were drafts again, although someone my age would probably be too old.
We have that here. When you do not want to be a soldier you can do social work instead. However the budget of our military cannot support so many soldiers so they at the moment only accept volunteers.
War (which is what the military is ultimately for) is evil, and coercion is evil, and it's basically slavery, and I thank my lucky stars I never had to do military service. But from a purely pragmatic perspective, given the worldview of certain countries or their leaders, or the worldview of humanity in general, mandatory military service may be necessary in some countries.
