I hated what they did with Xiao for yume pandering. I just hate the traveler now and how every character gets twisted when they have to be written around pandering to self insert fantasies.
I heard Twitter has exploded what happened :(
People will send anything in anon asks so why is this being blamed on nvfri shippers? Do you think false flag trolls don't exist?
Yeah no sorry there's a line and many of you have crossed it a while ago because in no way does saying "this is why no one likes them" about a group of shippers warrant RAPE THREATS, you are losing the plot point blank period people acting like this is why I stopped engaging with nufu shippers other than a few sane mutuals and it's really shameful that at your grown age you'd rather continue justifying vile harassment such as this over genshin impact shipping which will never in a million years be that serious
“justifying harassment” where. just WHERE have i justified any type of harassment towards that person. is saying that anon trolls spewing vile shit to stir the pot is unfortunately common in fandom = justifying harassment? because not once i’ve agreed with anyone attacking their person, NOT ONCE. let’s not be fucking dense, shall we? if you shade a group of people and then be surprised said group of people REPLIES to you— not harass, REPLY, DEFEND or DISAGREE with you then i’m sorry do not announce your “controversial takes”. at my grown age i know better than randomly start shit to annoy other people because we’re all on this stupid site to have fun, that’s why you have never nor will ever see me start shit unprovoked, unlike many others. i currently have sitting on my unanswered questions “nvfr shippers should kill themselves because they erase mlm rep”, should i start accusing every mlm shipper of being violent pos? or am i, at my grown age, capable of discerning trolls who want to start messy wars from actual people who just like shit different than mine?
to defend their harassment, i have gotten someone in my replies calling me a bitch, a whore, a cunt + reporting me to the french government for cyberbullying. i’ll gladly wait for you to point out where i have BULLIED anyone. but this is fine, right? this is warranted because i’ve decided to openly disagree with op, so i should be called all type of names, right?
i’m not entertaining anyone else. i’ve said my piece, go report me to the french govt as well if you want.
I was so confused by the way he threw yelan under the bus https://retrospring.net/@byakuyakoku/a/113911578383094871
You mentioned in another ask that people praised traveler too much for what he did in the array even though he wasn't a part of it and though I agree (I'm tired of the endless traveler praise) I think this goes to show that hu tao's friends still do not know what transpired at the border. They don't know that she was the only one responsible for the ritual; neither the traveler nor any of the 7 who took place in the array were responsible for it, they only took part of the fetor blast; the cleansing task, fetor absorption and details of the ritual all fell to hu tao. They still don't know the risks hu tao takes on a daily basis or that she was about to die. This is a conscious decision on her part, she doesn't want them to know.
The part in the beginning of the epilogue where xiangling says she's not going to take excuses from hu tao anymore made me heart break a little. They actually don't know anything about what took place.

"grief is just love preserving" is such a beautiful way to put it actually. and my opinion kind of aligns with that as well. hu tao's harshness towards her father wasn't a coping mechanism by any means. hu tao has no need to "cope" with death, her situation with her father was never a paradox to what we knew of her philosophy before. I've seen far too many people suggest that her bluntness is a coping mechanism but that entirely reduces something so important to her character - her agency when she deals with grief. she says so clearly when she speaks of him that its precisely because he's her father that she chooses not to hold back. she isn't instinctively or reflexively reacting to loss or trauma, nor is she dealing with any kind of unresolved grief over said loss.
maybe what I'm saying isn't very agreeable but its just how I saw it. her criticism of her father is her means of keeping his memory alive. when we mourn the dead, we tend to get caught up in blind reverence and forget the very human things that made the person prior to their death. not that its wrong, but its just not how hu tao functions.
and that's also why I always re-emphasize that there's meaning packed behind every single one of hu tao's actions, even in her whimsy. its her intention, its her choice. and there is no doubt that among all this, she hurts that her father placed her and her grandfather over his duty, contributing to so much death that could've been avoided. the "trash-talking" is her way recalling the values her father failed to uphold as gatekeeper. and these are the same values she holds herself accountable to.
also its not that death doesn't cause her pain. yes, she feels melancholic and wistful. yes, at one point, loss must have been hard to let go (like it was demonstrated with her grandfather's death). but I don’t want people to get caught up in this understanding of her as someone who’s happy on the surface and secretly miserable because I've been seeing this takeaway too much. she feels grief but doesn't let it overwhelm her. she’s so strict on the rules of life and death because she believes death is a necessary closure. The whole point of what she said of her father isn't that she's still deliberating loss but instead she knows how to process it. hu tao is willing to let go of anything should her duty as a psychopomp require it. But I also don’t want to attribute all her philosophies to her role as a mediator of life and death. It takes psychological fortitude to realise death the way she does. a lot of this comes down to her as an individual.
In any case, I have actually got a public account but I just made it around 2 days ago. I was lowkey tired of being a priv account. hu tao's my favoritest character ever I was hoping being public would allow me to get involved in discussions more
i agree especially with the “hidden sadness” part! i think it does a disservice to her character to pin her like that— not that it’s something bad, but it’s just not her. she’s very blunt and honest, and won’t let bad emotions eat her away. you have a really great grasp on her character AAAA i don’t even think i can add anything else, just.. i love hu tao <33 😔
how would you rank all the lantern rites we've had so far?
i started playing in 1.3 so i missed the first lantern rite, so from those i remember i would say
also my memory is awful so i might just speak out of warped feelings 😔 but this one was the best for me in any case
is it just me or was xiao' characterisation really off this lantern rite
eh i think he was pretty much the same as he has been every event he appeared in since perilous trail. he shows up, pines for traveler, goes away… at least it wasn’t as awful as that poetry event in 2023. unfortunately i don’t look forward to seeing him specifically because all he does now is yearn for traveler’s armpit hairs, i think he shines best when he isn’t interacting with mc (i rly like his dynamic with yelan, sucks that he had to be a bitch towards her in favor of yumebait lol)

Navia?
i hope next inazuma event delivers like lantern rite did
Now that I think about it its almost like hu tao is even more of a silent protector of liyue than xiao like at least the conquerer of demons is known and revered etc etc but barely anyone knows hu tao is responsible for liyue not falling into chaos 😭
hmm yes and no, i do agree that she’s also a “silent protector” but that’s not just her, it was the entire generation of wangsheng that also came before her! which is honestly impressive and it flows very well with the narrative that has been one of the main themes of genshin, which is the incredible powers humans have

hehe I just love going into depth about hu tao's character. I've even got so many thoughts about her relationship with her father. But that aside, I don't even follow you so it might seem weird but I kinda lack an outlet to talk about hu tao because my moots don't know much about her and that's okay. I just need to say it somewhere and have someone who reads it :D so thanks
FEEL FREE TO RANT AS YOUR HEART DESIRES!!! both here & in my dms in case you have a public twt and want to follow e/o hehe
i was really surprised by how they wrote her relationship with her dad— good surprised! she’s unapologetically harsh towards him, and i get it— she’s angry because the love he felt for his life was bigger than his sense of duty, which is something so human but that wangsheng can’t afford. it didn’t cost him just his life, or the village, but her grandfather’s life as well. and she is still hurting, despite everything… and not to quote wandavision when i didn’t even watch it, but isn’t grief just love preserving? i like to think that if she “hated” her dad and that’s it, she wouldn’t have kept that picture, and wouldn’t have seen him at the gate…
Loved the way anon articulated all that about Hu Tao. This makes me realize that Hu Tao and Furina are among the most, if not the most, mentally resilient characters in the game
there’s a blonde girl who could’ve been similar to them in terms of resilience but the game didn’t allow her to actually grieve and heal because she had to be this “strong woman” type of character so it fell flat and superficial and yes this is unprovoked hating im sorry.
anyway furitao >>>>
I feel like the LR was more in their focus than the AQ of Ntln... it may be recency bias here but it felt more like a coherent story, that doesn't overshadows the MC of the story, in this LR being Hu Tao.
Just a small jab towards Act 5 Ntln. but unlike there, seeing her being emotional to the point of tearing up, when she meet her father and grandfather made a BIG difference to me personally.
//
Also off-topic of the LR and more about Mav. I came to the point, where I think she got the Ei treatment with the "AQ hurt the character."
yep exactly, i don’t think it’s recency bias because act V came out two weeks ago and it still feels as awful as the day it came out. i think in this LR too many people thanked traveler for helping liyue again when they did something else entirely— which is help hu tao. only zhongli mentioned that :/
i think ei still got the short end of the stick because even if mavuika’s SQ felt a bit useless (it was just about xbalanque) at least it wasn’t the complete shitfest of raiden’s first quest. i do hope her sq2 will be better!
