When you make ocs what do you decide first (name, design, story, etc)?

i don’t make many ocs, but i usually end up sketching out a rough backstory about the character at first and then work on the name, race, personality, etc.

design is probably the last thing that i do since i am so awful at it

after i finish watching/reading a media theres always a character trait/concept that i like that will latch onto my brain and i rly need to make a character out of it also name comes last bc i rly suck at it xddd

i start with design and basic vibes! i find a lot of things w character design easier to think through while drawing so everything really starts moving once i start drawing and trying things out

I get a cool concept in my head and then go insane trying to make a character around it

Oh in both cases for me it's always the most ass-backwards way possible
For Sanguine it was Design > Personality > Story > Name
For the kiddos it was Name > Design (Kid) > Personality > Design (Adult) > Story

Literally anything BUT the name. Usually, I think I go for design? It's hard for me to remember in particular, but I usually want to operate off of a concept, and just kinda mold stuff around it. Everything else should serve that concept, as I see it. An actor plays to the part of their role.

Mostly their background or story I want to tell first, if not design first, but I always make a background for a design if that's the case to make it count. The hardest thing to do is give them a name :)

Story and a general vibe for the design. I never know what exactly they'll look like until I start slapping things together, but their story and vibe are almost always the first things there.

Design first, and then usually I make them in several video games and make tweaks based on my experience in the game.

To be honest it really just depends on the oc! Like Dogfight had a name before a design but Bravo had a design before a name

story and concept usually. when i create characters i start with an idea or role in the universe that needs to be filled. Then from there i build their personality to fit around their colleagues and usually name them last— unless i have a name that very strongly comes to mind
