what kind of gift-giver is Olyzas? Jericho? do they prefer giving gifts, or getting them?
AWW oh man olyzas is... not very auspicious compared to jericho (but jericho is more a gift giver in comparison for the wrong reasons.), out of virtue of their looking-glass observer lifestyle turned duty. not out of a lack of desire in gift-giving, just it'd crosses their mind in the material sense less. it'd be more abstract! their charge as memorializing people as an immortal altar is through memory, moments, immaterial reminders. if olyzas wants to show someone they are thinking of them or wanting to express gratitude, that thoughtfulness comes through their strong memory: remembering things they know about the person and pointing them out- or pointing out that olyzas /is/ thankful- but not giving anything! especially not something new. that requires a learned act of participation (and effecting other people's lives) that i don't think olyzas has put into their language. for that, a gift from olyzas would be exceptionally, very very rare. the closest gift i could see olyzas giving in the material sense would be /time/ (but that's still abstract..... it's themselves i guess); olyzas seeking someone out to spend time together for a day. the time mage gives time away :')
(as for getting gifts, olyzas is kolin's best friend so i don't think they're a stranger to receiving them; or being in a leader position on their shard before that)
jericho's another story! jericho is altruistic greed- possessive of everything, money objects people etc etc. despite most anything needing to be in some way under his want or be aware of him, somehow, he's surprisingly not a parsimonious atlas; but if he gives people things, people are thinking about him- and that's important! he'd be the type to send a gift to enemies or business rivals, for example. it's not an act of generosity or affection, but most times for notice or to you know, con the lie that he's likable or god forbid likes people; it's weaponized. mindful paranoia. a sharp ear to rumors, coin in pocket and a falsely friendly demeanor on the road to actually useful things can get a lot of excess throwaway knowings on what people want. vulture scraps for later, and wow, how did jericho know i needed this new thing? probably didn't hear it from the person!
in the d&d campaign, getting gifts for jericho was easy- their own gifts in return were sort of a war battle of reciprocity with a ferocious, spiteful little glee of payback that took itself too far, and; giving gifts on holidays was less required custom and more a talon's claw clutch to keep his strongest allies (the party) around in his corner. then and then, farther than this, it became less a chess play and more, 'you deserve this corner of you, as i see it', when giving something mindful, after what they'd went through together. the party to jericho has and is an ongoing subject of his own mirror and a violent carved need for identity (even though this is his perspective! not theirs) and because that's only how jericho sees it- that's through taking reclaiming fighting earning.
i sweat garlic and onions in a pan with some avocado oil (for the high smoke point) and then i add the tomatoes/tomato paste and mushrooms and stuff (u gotta have oregano) and then i put it on zucchini noodles
if i made spaghetti would olyzas eat it to be polite or would they actually enjoy it
how did olyzas and kolin meet!! did they hit it off as friends right away or was it a slower process?
HI KAM ooooh! best friends talk!
both kolin and olyzas' stories and close-knit bond connects over the loss of their worlds. for extra background to kind of set the 'when', olyzas' exodus from their own shard (the third) to the source was executed via an ascian named alyssum (one of my other ocs!) at the end of the reflection's life- dalamud falling, burning. like the warriors of darkness, this deal to destination was through the 'renunciation of flesh', and involved travel in death! after the deal to do so was struck, alyssum sent olyzas on a, charitable? way- pushing them off the shelf of the cliffside of cape westwind's mirror, and cast into the ocean below (in writing, grimly, olyzas' isn't a reliable source for what ended up actually /killing/ them first- the impact from the fall, the broken body after it, the drowning, or the ocean boiling from the moon's impact above. ooc: it was the drowning.) olyzas then sank from the third's sea into the aetherical sea. they stayed falling for some thousand years in stasis, calamity after calamity, until what was a bottomless well became the wave's surface on the source. they surface on the shores of vesper bay! which, on said source, is very close in landscape to cape westwind- the location olyzas' plummeted at alyssum's willing hands a world away.
the soul is timeless but olyzas' mind isn't- despite being in the aetherical sea for so long, to olyzas, the travel was a haze of altered consciousness; a delirious perception of space that forgets what a moment even is, but it's not years. it's undefinable and that's terrifying. and at first, they don't understand where they are, what's happening or why, and when the last thing in their memory was their home coming to an end; they panic! and crawl to the port town, panicking. the sky should have fallen, and it hasn't.
image: a soaked to the bone, 8" foot tall dragon, approaching individuals in vesper bay desperately, frenzied, what day is it? not understanding, no not the /date/, why there still is day at all? postulating at strangers, they shouldn't be here! this reasonably scares people trying to have a normal one and upsets the peace and olyzas is very promptly arrested for being hysterical, refusing to leave and causing problems.
they meet mr. kolin barlin this way, while sitting in a holding cell waiting to be released for their misbehavior (but still, everything doesn't make sense. they still ask questions to brass blades; some sympathies are given) who with the power of influential wealth and a monetarist's snap is bailed easy! kolin's has ears where rumors float on the foam of poured glass; laughter shared between the daily news and some castaway au ra talking about believing just yesterday was doomsday. no references, family, or traceable details at all- and that to kolin sounds Suspiciously Familiar, as another old traveler to the source. honing in on that thread, kolin folds olyzas very easily under his wing and into his pack of immortals; other souls made tangible under alyssum's bargain- as kolin has been alyssum's partner in becoming shepherd for a long time.
as for hitting it off quickly, FHDSFDSK ABSOLUTELY- kolin and olyzas, out of all the other immortals kolin has gathered are the only two from shards that were doomed and swept away by calamity. this makes olyzas a target to kolin's favoritism, and further align their strong respect for memory and how they choose to immortalize their respective homes; braids, time. song, stories. kolin has a very indulgent personality that equally exacerbates olyzas' that they never fully released in life. they are both gossips, (and olyzas has a trained eye as an observer, as former prophet to their people. they see everything, and kolin loves it) and cultivate each other in very assuasive ways. kolin is very, very encouraging of olyzas' more impish behavior, and vise versa in helping kolin get away with just about everything. this comradery and their shared loftiness for /being/ immortal and /being/ together in this situation makes them very quickly inseparable.
at first, olyzas doesn't immediately fall into the demeanor of who they are now: immortal, timeless pride and respect for who they are- their last moments on the third were blown-out, not enough time and not enough and the world is too much i am alone the world is too much. when they arrive on the source, their first moments are the fast-built repulsion of feeling /relief/. the survivor's guilt in inverted skin, that there was no longer the moon's pressure. but
nobody is looking up to them anymore, but all eyes are shut. it's learning how to deal with fear of too much that mutated into fear of nothing, and kolin is the strongest influence in olyzas' life at the start that moves them in the direction of acceptance past the grief, to not worry, to be? more human and less human, because they aren't anymore. and olyzas is the rest of the way to opening the eyes again, but through themselves. shame that lives without pity. they are best friends and they'd do anything for each other, through just the force of amazing chemistry and similar stories. kolin and olyzas everybody
sorry to say i'm back and will never let you be- tell me about olyzas' grandma. i know about her but i want to hear it again because i love her
HEHE HIIII oh my god! olyzas' fiesty nanna, my very favorite piece of olyzas lore
olyzas grew up deep in the mountains of the shard of the third's steppe. a mirror in most cases, but only saying this to point out there was no outside knowledge of what hydaelyn's blessing- the echo- was. when olyzas as a child started having dreams and visions of falling stars and the moon falling, it was perceived by their people as a spiritual blessing, and was thrust into becoming the prophet leader of their tribe.
olyzas' grandparents were deeply respected members of that community, and more deep in it's social rings than olyzas' only other family, their father- who retired as a horseman to spearfishing on the fringes and rivers of their society once olyzas was born. for that and because of that olyzas' grandparents plucked them out of that life and into becoming the dalamiq's centerpiece and confidant. the most important figure in this snatching olyzas' into a different life and out of (what she would probably describe) as potential disaster without her help was, the Nanna
olyzas' nanna is a small, shrewd, traditional ma'm who knows everything and knows how to tell people how to do everything. a frequent sight: nanna, with a small olyzas behind her legs and tail. the turn-around and bend down to tap up a quivery chin. you know this kind of grandma she's a hard love and tough to decipher. in writing, olyzas has spoken of her as, 'she spoke in the language of worry,' with an endeared sort of jeer, but simultaneously is concerned they'll invoke her spirit's wrath over very little things. olyzas was extremely well-loved (and fussed over) by their nanna. another, more infrequent sight: olyzas, older and grown into being a prophet and leader, taking out time to walk in linked arms with their nanna through the taller grass.
does ffxiv jericho have a crew like dnd jericho does wrt the dwarves? if he does what are they like. if he doesn't how has that affected his adjustment in regards to learning his Ways of behaving
HI HI i didn't get to this yesterday but i'm so glad you remember jericho's dwarven cowboy con gang i'm crying!!!
with ffxiv version of jericho, i think that gang would be a bunch of scheming yeehaw lalafells, i wouldn't lie to you ever my hand is on that bible! (though in dnd, the one outlying member of the crew excluding jericho, who was a kobold named "egg-eyes", would be a lil goblin i think FHSDJKF.) the gang itself would commit the same hit-and-run fraud in this setting: a bunch of miners who snipe rich ore deposits by spreading false information and selling enchanted, counterfeit ore.
(with varied store fronts and occasional black market steeping- precious metals only traceable as the gangs via an imbued invisible signature seal that someone would have to crack the material to find; and only being /made/ visible under certain aetheric conditions. thinking, like, irl example: uv reactive ink stamped on the wing feathers of pigeons to identify them.)
overall lyin', cheatin' and stealin' cowboys. just like jericho! the group's influence on jericho's "foundational" years of copying and grabbing identities to form his own would still be there! the only difference i feel would be the two "leaders" of the gangs motivation;
in dnd, the two (who are siblings) are both rune-smiths, magically enchanting weapons and tools. overtime, they get jaded out of the dwarven style of living via monotony. in ffxiv, they would be ul'dahn goldsmiths that fall out of reputation and the public eye for similar reasons, but with a different flavor of backdrop?! and probably... a bit more notoriety... word spreads in thanalan. versus dnd, a whole continent divided province to province, there's more cracks to squeak through.
please describe what jericho would be like at a party. alternatively, at a friend's wedding (not that he deserves friends but you know)
THE TAIL-END OF THIS JUST GAVE ME THE BIGGEST LAUGH HFDSJKF::FA yeah like ew i read 'jericho' and 'friends' and immediately repulse my head into my neck just like you
it think it'd depend on the host (for wedding). at a party, an unpredictable metronome on the farthest ends, the click-click ticking of 'center-of-attention' or 'just enough in the background to not be noticed, so he can get up to something.' parties for jericho are fun, malleable people clutter and his personality thrives on giving boredom bones to chew on. parties are also extremely potent rumor tools, and jericho is always thinking in, 'how is this going to get me a leg ahead later?', when in the cupboards digging for word poison to slip someone.
one of jericho's most irritating cons can be reverse-charisma; fooling around and appearing aloof so that he doesn't look like a threat to anyone. it also gives him a free pass to do whatever he wants in the moment in face of the persona of a fool- which could be causing a fight, flirting and pretending to be nice, or just stealing a family heirloom then pinning it on someone's else.
whomst among your characters would genuinely enjoy playing monopoly
