Kanae is a green tea person first and foremost, though coming to Eorzea and given who the two people she's closest to are (Y'shtola and Urianger) she's developed a fondness for black tea with milk and sugar... for booze though she prefers sake to stuff like ale
Y'shtola I see as a black tea with cream drinker, and clearly the game shows she drinks wine so I'd be surprised if she didn't like it.
W'htal... what DOESN'T he drink? His first love is grape wine though so Wineport is his favorite place in all of Eorzea lmao. Though I know by Shadowbringers Thancred tries to cut back on the alcohol I still think he has a soft spot for a good Limsan ale... and well. Urianger really shouldn't be near the stuff but . Drunk him is cute

Oh jeez this is a tough one... this probably can change from day to day but most consistently (and probably most cringeworthy lol) is his relationship with the concept of love, just because he goes from not really giving or receiving anything meaningful until after ARR... like even the welcome he receives when he meets with the Scions for the first time is more than he usually sees. It's not that his family in Kugane doesn't love him, but everyone back home is on the "learn to take care of yourself by yourself" mentality, for better or worse, especially once W'htal got to adulthood. Romantic, familial, platonic... all those he has a better understanding and appreciation of now, especially after Endwalker. Idk. I told someone that really he's just a guy who honestly had a lot of love to give, just didn't realize it, and just needed people to give it to. He's still an asshole, but if he cares about you, he cares a lot.

Kanae grew up with the very strong assumption that she'd be married to a man. Her parents were in an arranged marriage that thankfully ended up very happy (and lovey dovey which one wouldn't really expect from the outside) so she grew up thinking she'd be in for the same. She was engaged to a young man from a minor vassal family to Hien's, but after a year the two of them broke the engagement off with their parents' blessing. After that she tried not to think about it too much, and even after being with Y'shtola neither of them really thought about it until a very incensed Tataru insisted they do SOMETHING... which they did. No wedding rings but they do have matching bracelets uwu

W'htal meanwhile, putting aside Seeker culture not really seeing marriage in the same way other peoples do, never even entertained the idea. Mr Serial Relationship Haver was fully content staying that way, and even after deciding to just be with Thancred and Urianger, he didn't even think about getting married... however all it took was one wayward glance from W’htal at a newlywed couple while the three of them were in Corvos post-6.0 for Thancred to ask him if he wanted to get married ""as a joke"" and god it's the most embarrassed either of them have been. Urianger had been in town and came back to the two of them not able to make eye contact with each other. After being told what happened Urianger just says "do it, I don't see anything bad about this" so they take a detour to Kugane and all THREE of them elope and get married by Tansui at the Shiokaze Holstery. No one really questioned his authority or lack thereof to do it, but boy did W'htal's old coworkers just. Stand there in disbelief while the husbands were drinking their asses off. W'htal called in a quick favor with another former merchant buddy and got some really nice simple bands as their wedding rings. W'htal and Urianger wear plenty of rings as it is so no one notices right away but Thancred wears his on a chain as a necklace under his armor.

For Kanae, the main thing was a full name that probably existed in Edo Period Japan... and while most people didn't really have surnames back then, you can't really do that in game, so! Tomatsu existed in records from back then but wasn't like. An Extremely notable one like Oda.

W'htal's name was reverse engineered into a miqo'te name from a Japanese name, because he was a Kugane merchant first and I picked his race second! Since miqo'te aren't seen a ton in Hingashi, I decided he'd come from elsewhere but got the name he went by (Wataru) from it being an easier version for the people he worked with to say. Initially he Was going to be a Tia but I realized it wasn't useful for him, so I picked Corax. I knew I wanted to start with a corvid based name because he's a tricky guy (putting it kindly) and crows tend to have trickster associations-- turned out the Japanese name for corvus corax was ワタリガラス-- the watari part can be written with a kanji that can be also read wataru ☺️

For Kanae I think it was probably when she tried making traditional Sharlayan food for Shtola: she had to learn about it from Krile, G'raha and Tataru, and tried her hardest to make it taste good, but even the world's most skilled culinarian can only make archon loaf taste palatable. Cooking is Kanae's main love language so Shtola appreciated it a lot but then after a good laugh she gets asked to make her favorite Doman food instead.

For the first Valentione's Day after everyone comes back from the First, Urianger and Thancred get a very large bouquet of flowers each sent to them at the Rising Stones-- from an "anonymous" benefactor. Neither of them say anything to each other or even bother W'htal about it but they find it really sweet.

I want to say it's probably the moment Thancred asked W'htal to marry him-- it was embarrassing in that W'htal was clearly staring off in the distance at some married couple having a nice time in Corvos and it was also embarrassing that, as "a joke," Thancred proposed-- he immediately backpedaled and they couldn't look at each other for a good five minutes until Urianger came back from some other part of town and after hearing what happened went "Well I for one do not see a problem with this" so they detour to Kugane, get married by Tansui, the suddenly Urianger is also thrown in. It's a mess

For Kanae, especially after Endwalker, her feelings are a little complicated... she does not like the Emet-Selch she defeated in Shadowbringers, and while she does choose to remember the ancients per his asking, she goes about that as a historian would-- out of obligation to the ideal of keeping knowledge to pass on to the next generation. It's a bit painful for Emet to see that's all it is for her, especially given that her Azem's namesake was the goddess of memory. But Kanae isn't her, and as much as the experiences in Elpis inform her feelings towards Hades the man instead of Emet-Selch the Convocation member, she still doesn't see him as anything more than an ally for a short time, from a time long past.

W'htal does not like Emet at all, full stop. He's like a magnet to people he finds full of themselves, and if nothing else, the dramatic persona he gets in ShB gets on his nerves. The time in Elpis hardly helped matters-- it was always Azem this, Azem that, and he doesn't know or care to know who his Azem was as a person. If Kanae was aware of herself being other than Mnemosyne, then W'htal was 10 times as aware of his difference from Ammon, and was not afraid to tell anyone in the world unsundered to leave him alone about it. He remembers, but only because such a nuisance to him is hard to forget.

I think I've said this plenty of times, but! For Kanae her best friend in the Scions is Urianger-- despite ARR being "what is he even SAYING" and late HW being "...can I actually trust you though?" she both learns from Y'shtola a bit in StB and sees in ShB that they actually have a bit in common. Those lectures on the language of the Fae? Kanae is all ears-- horns. You know.

For W'htal he immediately felt a connection with Tataru-- part of it was that his best friend ("best friend") in Kugane, Kinu, is also a lala, but also despite her initial impression, he could tell she was capable with coin. He appreciates that, and even now post-6.0 is more than happy to help with her new business empire haha
