To me when it comes to sad songs specifically, I'd always relate better to the ones that are sung in my mother language simply because I personally find it easier to express what I feel in English and much harder in Bahasa Indonesia (more like I'm not used to talking about feelings in my first language and I'm still working on it) therefore listening to the songs in a language that I learned first, that I speak with daily, and way more familiar to me than other languages that I know of help me understand my emotions and release it better, if ever that makes sense. Also, it just hits home so right in so many ways :)
